Could be tough for Gmac tomorrow. Luiten will be no pushover.

Be tough for Lowry too. Pablo played very well in defeat to Dooby

Great to see Kevin Phelan finally put it together over the weekend. Not enough to keep his card but something to fight for now heading to Perth.
Nothing less than a win will do Peter Lawrie.

A big shot of confidence for Kevin, 4 rounds in the 60's, any other tournament with that score and the prize money would have been higher.

Up to 129th, would need a similar cheque next week. Around 63k off 110th.
Id be confident he'd get through q school again anyway.

Some putt by Stenson on 18 to win the match. First time he was up all day.

Shame Phelan just didn't make another few cuts during the year instead of having this pressure. He's plenty good enough to be on tour from what i've seen.

He's currently 130th in the rankings. Players finishing between 126th and 145th get a category 17 ranking for the following season. Not sure what this means in terms of number of tournaments he would get a place in.

He's definitely good enough to get back in via the qualifying school, but you can never be sure how anyone will perform over a 6 round marathon, so at worst today's result has given him something of a fall back position.

Getting a category 16 ranking for next year is a good target in Perth, its got David Higgins 19 starts this year. Kevin in a stable well able to pull sponsor invites as well. As you said his current position will take a small bit of pressure of Q school. I see one of the category 17 players has had 13 starts this season.

level par round for Kevin today - Tied 84th. Gonna need a good number tomorrow if he wants to make the cut!

    Other Irish

    McGrane -2
    Maybin -1
    Lawrie +1

Unfortunately it's +3 for Lawrie and off to Q-School in low confidence and poor form.

Been watching him and rooting for him all season. Gutted for him - seems a really nice guy. Just hope he makes it at Q school.

Finished on +5 so yes, off to Q school - poor guy. Wish him the best.

Good round from Phelan to make the cut. Will be tough to get into the top 4 however he has given himself a chance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,336 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Given himself a chance is right. Fairplay to him.

Level par round today. Can't see him doing it now unfortunately. Hopefully a good last round to get as far up the list as possible.

Does anyone know why there are 80 players instead of the 78 players that are supposed to be taking part in this limited field event?

if the draw was done last week, it could be rankings based.

    Lowry was 54 - Stadler was 58

So if he only got 13 starts would he have to make enough money in those 13 to retain his card next year? Or can he play in challenge your events too and count it towards his total to keep his card next year?

Challenge tour events would only count towards their own ranking.
I'm very confident Kevin will come through Q-School again and do enough next year to finish top 110.

It seems the criteria allowed for a minimum of 78 this time around with no mention of maximum.

Could have been a lot more with 10 of the top 50 in the world not playing.

Ah OK - that sounds logical and I hope it's true.
