Dublin Underground Music Scene

Anyone know of good places to go in Dublin on Fridays - definitely don't want to go to a nightclub, more so somewhere with good rock music (had something similar to the old CBGBs in NY in mind but I don't think there's anywhere like that in Ireland?). Maybe it's just my lack of knowledge of the Dublin underground scene but I've yet to find anywhere that opens (very) late and has any potential in producing a cult following for bands like The Hacienda, The Roxy or CBGB did back in the day!

Underground as in Rock/Metal? or more Alternative?

Plenty of Rock/Metal establishments in Dublin. All play live music and DJ's.

Fibbers Ormond Quay, Bruxelles, Harry St., Fibber Magees, Parnell St. Club Hell (on Saturdays in O'Reilly's bar) Gypsy Rose, Aston Quay.

Punk/Rockabilly you have The Thomas House, Thomas St.

Goth you have Dominion (Saturday nights in Murray's bar, O'Connell St.)

That has to be one of the most depressingly optimistic posts I've ever seen.

Thanks for the suggestions! Any of those genres are better than some of the crap you hear in the average nightclub
It's been quite a while since I've been out in Dublin I've actually forgotten the good spots

The Pint on Eden Quay hosts a lot of gigs but I find some promoters and the venue are too ****ing lazy to promote the gigs ...

    Upcoming there is:
Mcgalligog, Psykosis, Twisted Wrath and Black Svan - http://www.reverbnation.com/show/6299466
Hail to the Gods of Winter - http://www.facebook.com/events/238597559496004/
Into The Void Anniversary show - http://www.facebook.com/events/134735043293617/
Alestorm and Claim The Throne - http://dublinmetalevents.com/upcoming-shows/alestorm.html
    Krisiun and support - http://dublinmetalevents.com/upcoming-shows/krisiun-malevolent-creation-vital-remains.html
    Devil's Blood and Brains - http://dublinmetalevents.com/upcoming-shows/the-devils-blood.html
    Alcest - http://dublinmetalevents.com/upcoming-shows/alcest.html

That's just before the end of Feb, the smaller shows can be a nightmare to keep an eye on but DME hosts a load there too - http://dublinmetalevents.com/upcoming-shows

Don't waste your time in Fibbers at the top of O'Connell St, they give up on the rock/metal/alternative scene on a pretty regular basis.

The Gypsy Rose Rock & Blues Bar, Aston Quay.

The only Authentic Rock bar in Dublin city ;)
