Champions League and Victoria Cup

Attempts to set up a champions league in European ice hockey are ongoing, with the competition slated to return next year. The winner of the competition would then go on to compete for the Victoria Cup against a team selected by the NHL - not the winner of the Stanley Cup. The Victoria Cup has been contested twice, decided by a single match in Switzerland on each occasion. The New York Rangers and ZSC lions are the two winners.

Will the champions league ever get off the ground properly and become Europe's top trophy? And could the Victoria Cup ever develop into a European Champions -V- Stanley Cup winners match, and be regarded as important by both sides?
