IRISH TASTER DAYS - Due to the exceptional amount of positive feedback we received at both the Dublin and Belfast shows we have decided to go ahead and organise a couple of "Taster Days". Basically it will be a chance for people to take part in 4/5 classes each lasting approx 1hr so they get the chance to try out new techniques with myself and at least 3 other excellent tutors. All materials will be provided for each class so all you need to bring is a few basic tools and enthusiasm. The event will run over 2 days (Sat/Sun) with different classes on each day, so you will have the option to attend both days.
The project is still in the planning stage; we are currently looking at venues in both the North and South and welcome any suggestions regarding locations.
The page will be updated every time we have more information, so to keep up to date keep checking back, or register your interest using the contact form, which can be found here http://www.alysinkyfingers.co.uk/?page_id=16
    or message us on Facebook

Facilitated by a team of experienced artists and educators the courses and workshops at the MART Academy covers a wide range of creative, artistic and technical disciplines.
MART is proud to welcome The MART Academy to our stable. An inclusive and creative approach has always been core to all of MART’s activities. Now with dedicated learning spaces and engaging and professional tutors working across a broad range of arts disciplines, we are delighted to be able to offer courses that seek to inspire a curiosity for knowledge and the development of skills in a relaxed and comfortable setting.

Our participant focused courses offer small classes that combine a creative approach with active teaching and learning practices from skilled tutors who are professional artists in their own right. We offer courses that seek to educate and inspire in a welcoming and supportive environment, with plenty of tea and cake!

Our Timetable will run in blocks of 5 week courses.- €80 for 5 week Course. – Booking: academy@mart.ie

    Coming up First:

    Photography – Tutor: Aoife Giles
This evening course is designed for you to get the most out of your digital camera, get you out of automatic and into the creative/manual side to your camera. This course is ideal for people who are looking to improve their photography as well as explore portraiture and landscape photography. The course will help you to understand photographic terminology and equipment as well as incorporating a portrait and long exposure night shoot. This course is open to beginners and improvers. Please bring a digital camera ; Bridge or SLR cameras as well as compacts that offer more than just point and click options.

    Drawing – Tutor: Debbie Jenkinson

Develop your own drawing style – (For all levels of experience)

If you’ve ever wished you could draw, this is for you. This course aims to help you find your own working process, and work to your strengths, no matter what your experience level – once this is in place, you’ll find you can work more freely, and quickly, allowing you to focus on your ideas. We’ll exchange ideas and work collaboratively in an collaborative, relaxed atmosphere with the emphasis on learning rather than making technically perfect drawings.

Finding your own drawing style can improve your confidence hugely. Confident drawing is the foundation to producing more work and having more fun with it, for all sorts of purposes, from a garden design to sketches for paintings or sculpture, from portraits of your friends, to sketches for conceptual work. You can use drawing as a tool for planning, designing and thinking on paper. Drawing is a foundation skill: it trains the eye, it teaches you to visualise and be more observant, is a great pass-time, travel companion and way of documenting things. We’ll talk about finding inspiration in reference, brainstorming, free-associating, and studying other artists’ work in slideshows. These skills in visual communication overlap with concept development and will apply to all creative tasks in your life.

    Painting – Tutor: Aoife Flynn

This 5 week painting course, led by artist Aoife Flynn, will cover the basics of line, tone, colour and texture. Suitable for all ranges of ability, participants are encouraged to paint from life and to acquire the skills necessary to complete a finished piece during the course. This course will also give participants the confidence to develop their own individual technique to continue working with paint as a medium. At the beginning of this course participants will be asked to bring along an object or objects that they will work with for the 4 weeks. This could be natural or manmade, objects like beetroot with stems and roots attached, animal skulls, eggs, plants and flowers, crab or lobster shells or might include a pair of old shoes or runners (the more distressed the better) electrical goods such as an old typewriter, computer parts etc.

    Textiles - Tutor: Eleanor Lawlor

Join us for traditional textile crafts with a twist. Ever wondered how to create a patchwork design? Tea cosys, crochet blankets/cushion covers and throws are among the textile crafts you’ll be learning. We’ll show you how to create wonderful objects for your home using pre-loved textiles in exciting and creative ways.At the end of the course you will be able to create a simple patchwork design, crochet a tea cosy, cushion cover or blanket and use pre-loved clothes to create a simple and attractive throw.

Heading to this on Saturday and thought it might be interesting:
    https://www.facebook.com/events/544724858972811/?ref=22

Not too sure if you have to book or just turn up but its 10euro for a Child to make a wooden log candle holder from scratch (pictures in the link) and fathers day card. They have petting animals etc and coffee to observe your kids making the crafts, so for a 10er per kid (18 for two) it sounds worthwhile!
