Big brother is being dropped after coming to a natural end?
    I whooped! :D
I thought it came to a natural end about halfway through the very first (and only) episode I watched.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

At risk of abuse, I for one will miss it.
I've always had an interest in psychology and love people watching so I found it pretty enjoyable sometimes.

This show is a tumour that has blighted television for the last 9 or 10 summers.

Its given us such "stars" as Ray Shah,John Tickle and lets not forget the tabloids favourite,Jade Goody.

One of the original ended up in porn and made a movie called "Big Bugger"

I for one will not miss this bullspit.

This was true of the first, second and perhaps the 3rd series where they always had an interesting mix of people designed to wind each other up. After that you could pretty much smell the "oh I want to be famous" off the contestants.

I have never seen an Episode of BB.

I thought of it more of a young womans gossip programme. Sorry for the stereotype. I thought of it in the same way as the Late Late a womans programme that men watch because its on. Like soap operas.

I always thought life is too short to watch "reality" shows.

I'm surrounded by reality ... that's why I want to read, or watch proper telly ... like The Sopranos :)

    Two questions:
    1. Why is this news?
    2. Why is this news for this forum?
    3. Who watches this drivel?

    Ok, three questions. :)

Hand on heart ... it probably isn't really what you'd call news, as such, so to speak.

    Why not ?

The first series was interesting as it was kind of like a proper social experiment and the people involved seemed to forget there were cameras there after the first few weeks, the following years though has seen people go in with the intention of becoming famous and most of them have the personality of a stamp

Plus they made them do interesting stuff in the first couple of years

It went to sh!te after that and I have only watched it when it has been inflicted on me by various girlfriends

it would have been so much better if they had put the fame hungry little feckers in conditions that would cause them stress and through tasks that would be somewhat torturous, that I would watch, test them until someone snapped it is what they deserve

Its very hard to find viewer demographics for BB

An analysis I came across based on 30% of the adult population in the UK. Its news cos it was a big show.

    Males 28% Females 34%
    16-24 58%
    25-34 56%
    35-44 36%
    45-54 25%
    55-64 15%
    65+ 9%

    Students 51%

So the show is targeted towards Females 16-34 predominently students and thats the demographic advertisers look for in certain consumer products.

Cynical me would say that the male viewers are involuntary (girlfriend is an addict so they sit thru it). Thats me being biased BTW -I hate soap operas too.

So its news here cos the telly is free for the guy to pick programmes.

I reckon the advertising revenue and repeat ad campaigns would give a clearer picture.

I'll bet that those interested in BB tend not to be interested in current affairs or news programs. I'm surprised at the number of men claimed as viewers, but as you say, they probably represent a captive audience, to a major extent.

There's a thread in tLL, "What do you wish you knew about your OH before you moved in together?", and that is one thing I'd have to know. I was lucky 2nd time around, in that my OH has zero tolerance for soaps and "reality" TV. 1st time around was a soapy disaster. :D At least I was spared "reality" TV.

Thank fcuk its being axed--Now I might get my life wife back.Shes the biggest BB addict Ive ever seen.

How any one can waste 10 weeks of their lives watching that sh1te is beyond me.

Its at least an hour a night and sometimes two.As for Fridays I think its the best part of 3 hours between eviction, big brothers little brother, big brothers fooking grandfather, sister, great aunt.

I cant even watch TV in another room at the minute cos Im getting renovations done and theres only one connection working in the house at the minute.

I can hear it - you are insensitive.

Do you think women will actually post here to defend their viewing habits?

Insensitive? WTF? BB is one of the greatest wastes of human resources. From any perspective.

Who's asking anyone to defend their viewing habits? Not me.

Rot your brain if you want...

Sorry, I was being sarcastic and was parodying BB supporters.

Still I would like to see people defend the show " ah well, I watched it for the backstabbing and the hope that the contestants would shag".

The Sun had offerred £50k for some Boy/Girl action between the covers and I got this from a link on Tiggy Legge-Bourke Wikipedia Page and her cousin did the deed in French Big Brother.

Earlier this month on the French Big Brother, Eleanor Legge-Bourke, the cousin of former royal nanny Tiggy Legge-Bourke, was filmed apparently having sex with a fellow contestant.
Housemates have also had sex on the Swedish, Norwegian, Australian, Italian and Belgian versions of the show.

I'm so, so, so ecstatic that's finally going! No more twelve hours a day of boring people in a house doing boring stuff to be picked over and 'analysed' by Davina McCall and other no-name t1ts. Such a waste of time and life. And perhaps now there won't be anymore Jade Goodys spawned...:D

Have you watched it for 12 hours and know the presenters. What was the attraction??

There was a bit more to it - websites -internet feeds etc and there also was the whole "social" end of it that people bought into.

I never watched it for twelve hours- a 'live feed' is broadcast into the early hours every day. That's the '12 hours' I was referring to. I've never seen it though. Or anything else Big Brother-related. It's utter drivel.

I don't know the presenters either, but if you watch channel 4 for any length of time you're bound to see an ad about it, or one with Davina McCall screaming absolute nonsense about something/somebody on the show.

Couldn't tell you, as I absolutely detest it. Thought that would have been clear from my post, tbh.

Why did you assume I watched it?

It wasn't obvious and I suppose its because you knew who presented it etc

Same here I know hardly anyone who'd watch it.

I watched it for about fifteen minutes once, it was the first night either last year or the year before, it was pretty horrendous.

Id rather watch Murder She Wrote naked while being repeatedly slapped with a length of hose with barbed wire wrapped around it.

As far as Im concerned, Civilisation took a giant leap back as soon as this moronic "entertainment" was first aired!

Fair enough, it is was a novelty at the time, but just look at the type of monster it creates. As a poster already mentioned....

Jade Goody, Ray (im Irish but I consider myself to be English) Shah, never mind all the other Irish oddballs that represented us as a nation over the years!!

It was a staging ground for absolute wanabee lowlifes that thought they deserved to be rich and famous by sitting on their hole and acting like a gobsh*te......and it worked for so many people.

I am disgusted that these people are admired and in some cases are role models for people. These dregs of society that got their stupid mush on TV are household names...

...where are the real heroes of the world?.....why dont kids aspire to be Doctors, Nurses, Firefighters, Paramedics, Inventors, Entrepreneurs, Scientists, etc?

In summary, I HATE BIG BROTHER and all it "stands" for!!

    (sorry for long post):)
