BBA by any chance? had great finding with them and that particular module when nobody in Ireland could help, or at least not for anything near the BBA price.

Not sure tbh as it's a while since I was talking to him about it.

Alfas always have really nice interiors!
Too bad the rest of the car often doesn't stand up to it.
I don't find them that good looking either like some do. The GT was good looking and the Brera is probably the best looking hatchbacks ever made. Not that fond of their newer models neither did the older 90s and 00s models appeal much to me.

Yes, a brilliant idea, don't know why it wasn't created sooner!

My 406 (and the rest of my daily hacks I've had over the years) fall into this category so there is potential for a cracking car with far less work :)

I will advise that if one was to take on such a car (bought mine with a blown turbo and general wear and tear) that an in-depth knowledge of the vehicle is a must. No point buying such a vehicle only to find out there are 101 other problems you didn't account for or potentially account for (replacement engine etc)
each make and model has a fourm in the u.k. google will find it for you, the ones that i have looked up have a step by step guide to most jobs, if not just ask them, the only one that trys to catch you that i have come across is the primera one, but then google probably find it for you, a lot of american ones on utube, i find its best to download them, then edit out the trash, also read the reviews underneath, these will give a good guide as to the worth of the video.

That vectra is a nightmare (i had one exactly the same, absolute shed)

406 is prob anti roll bar bushing, fuel tank needs to be removed;)

Puma, how far wrong can ya go for 200?

    Bmw, its silver............:pac:
Minor mechanical on those normally means the control module for the abs, speedo and revs, about 250 to repair.

your local perhaps friendly east european charge €70 to repair that, well that what i was charged for a primera that was not starting, he reset all the electrics, then re gigged the lot, three local garage guys had told me to scrap it as it was unrepairable, he also done the same to a megan diesel belonging to a family member, so it is advisable to check him out before buying, as one can take it straight to him before bringing it home.

406 could be the main hub bushes shot, a right arse to replace..... Drop links could be gone too, still a pig to change

you are right, i had a 405 which required them, if the 406 is the same it is a money drain, the bushens are made of brass, they have to be done by an engineering works, they have to be put in with a sledge, work for someone strong.

The link for the Civic is for a Primera, but it fits the thread too :)

the primera is value, one could prob get the price of the tyre knocked off the asking price, the nct is a visual, stick a bit of tax on it. these do 40 to the gallon.

Its just a 1.4l. Its my first car so couldn't get insurance on the 1.7 or it was a ridiculous quote...

Got the NCT today! So based on that I'll be deciding the future on my Puma soon!!

    Hmmm let me know.

    Right back from the NCT.
The Puma failed, which was expected. BUT good news is it failed only where I was expecting it to fail, which is its useless handbrake. The emissions has in fact gone down since last year! Looks like the supercharge engine oil treatment did the trick. Its not burning through as much oil as it used to either. Previously it needed oil top up every 500miles, now I've driven about 1000miles since the oil treatment and top up and its still got plenty of oil!

So yeah, as it seems to be only a small fix which shouldn't cost too much, I guess the best thing is that I'll stick with the car for another year. No point giving it away supercheap while its still running strong. Would be cool if I can make it to the 100K miles mark on it, which I should probably be able to by the end of this year if I keep it going!

Also how is it that a 1.2l Fiesta with a blown head gasket is more expensive than a working 1.7l Puma???
Imo the Puma is much better looking, more powerful and more fun to drive than the Fiesta.

that fiesta is a money drain, the cost of the hg added on to the car price makes it a crusher imo

This is my contribution for the day :D

A Xantia that needs a wheel bearing and probably a bit more. Small bit of tax and test.

Laguna with a bit of tax and a long test. The damage doesn't look too extensive but only a close look will tell.

was tempted to bangernomics it, but it just didn't feel right :P

the good : 4 months NCT, cheap for a starlet
the bad : glanza alloys, glanza spoiler would be concerning
the funny : "clutch only 2 years old"

be worth a hack for €500 if it drives ok :)

Jesus , I've a 00 reg Xantia with Leather and only 70k miles , albeit its a 1.8 petrol, that only needs a pinhole in the exhaust fixed (nissandoctor has seen it and can vouch for it being a little hole :@-) ) that I was going to try sell for €500ish. Might be an easier sell than I thought. Especially with the extras bits and pieces I have and having a complete history.
