I am using a Seagate external drive for my Time Machine backup on my iMac. When I either shut down the mac or put it to sleep, the disk dismounts and when I reboot or wake, the drive is no longer recognised. I then have to unplug it from the back of the mac and plug it back in and then enter my password for it again when it mounts.

Is there a way to keep it mounted or that it automatically remounts when the mac is turned on?

Is the drive powered from the USB port or from a mains adapter? I've a mains powered LaCie drive on my late 2012 iMac which 'just works'.

It's connected by USB. It's a portable drive so no power adapter
