    Hi All,

Right. In anticipation of the season of 101 questions about Soll commencing very soon, here is a starter guide for Winter 2104/15. Some info has changed since last year, but most of this has been posted a hundred times before. BUT since (understandably) nobody seems to trawl through previous threads for info, I hope it's helpful.

    Flights:
Munich: Aer Lingus, 2 flights daily Mon-Sun, morning and evening.
Salzburg: Ryanair 2 flights weekly, Sat & Sun (Subject to change, who knows. It's Ryanair).

Memmingen is an option, but much further out than Munich Airport.

    Airport Transfers:
    From Salzburg: info@andis-taxi.com or office@ski-transfer-salzburg.at
    From Munich: www.tirol-taxi.at or http://www.loackertours.at

    Trains:
    www.db.ie
    www.oebb.at/en/

Take train to Kufstein (or Worgl), and then taxi to Soll. Kufstein is closest to Soll, so will be cheapest for taxi transfer.

    Accommodation:
Email tourist office http://www.wilderkaiser.info/en/, give them dates, numbers & requirements and they'll respond with a list of available accommodation.

My favourite hotel is the Postwirt. For short self-catering stays check out
    Schoenblick: http://www.schoenblick-soell.com/
    Mirabelle: http://www.mirabell-soell.at/
SportMayr: http://www.sportmayr.info/ (Also does equipment rental)

Apartments: As above, best to check with tourist board for options, but if you fancy keeping it Irish you can check-in with the lovely Lenny at Bergview Haus: http://www.bergviewhaus.com/

    Lift Pass:
http://www.skiwelt.at/en/normal-tariff.html. Can be bought in Snow & Fun next door to Salvenstadtl (after your third beer when you arrive), or at the Kasse at the gondola station the next morning ;-)

    Ski school:
    http://www.skischule-soell.com/skischule-ski-school-snowboard-soll-skiwelt-wilder-kaiser-tirol-austria-en/15

    Equipment Hire:
http://www.snowfun.biz/en/ Next door to Salven Stadtl Pub, gives online discount on hire, Martin Steinbacher is an excellent boot fitter if you're thinking of buying, you can also buy your lift pass and book ski-school here.

http://www.sport-edinger.at/index.ph...to-go/Skinacht Underneath Gondola, also excellent fully-serviced ski garage with heated boot storage.

    Equipment Storage:
http://www.sport-edinger.at/index.ph...to-go/Skinacht As above, best storage in town, located underneath gondel station. Staffed by a flock of very pretty Essex boys, who provide random impromptu entertainment.

The guys are fussy about procedure. Learn The System here ;-)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awRC6cKsqa8

    Apres-ski:

Umbrella bar (at GrundlAlm): For people who have progressed to the middle station, yay! The umbrella bar is opposite the entrance to the Grundlalm at the middlestation, and is usually heaving by 3pm. After you have your jagers, leave the empty bottle on the windowsills & watch them build up as your holiday progresses. If you are not a confident skier, try to remember the last gondel down leaves at 5pm. Otherwise you will have to wait for the piste-machines to clear the home run, and then ski down drunk. And scared. In the dark ;-)

Oberhausberg: Small bar halfway down the blue family run. Great for a few cheeky beers for the way home, and serves the best schnitzel in town.

Salven Stadtl: Main meeting point for apres, outdoor heated beer area, , free wifi, live music, breakfast rolls & tea from 8am, BBQ steak semmels (excellent soakage) outside from 3pm, pizza from 8pm, home of the 'Hammer Game', where groups of very drunk people swing a hammer at a nail in an upturned tree trunk for hours on end, endless varieties of shots and lots of ridiculousness :-)

    Toboggan Run:
A must. Great fun, rent your toboggan at the gondel station (different speeds & types to choose from), and then hurl yourself down the mountain on the dedicated 11km toboggan run. Wear solid footwear, waterproof trousers and close the snowskirt inside your jacket. Best avoided if you have a bad back ;-)

    Night skiing & Tobogganing:
    Wed - Sat from 18.30 - 21.30
    http://www.skiwelt.at/en/night-skiin...brixental.html

    Alpin Igloo:
Another must-see, for anyone confident to ski reds: A bar in an Igloo smile.pnghttp://www.skiwelt.at/en/alpeniglu-i...tractions.html

Please feel free to endorse these links for other users, or to add others if you have additional suggestions, the more information the better! If there are any errors or omissions I apologise in advance.

Happy skiing folks, stay safe and have fun!!! :-)

Thanks for providing the information on Soll, it's very useful. Roughly how much would you expect to pay for a taxi from Worgl or Kufestein?

About €15 from Kufstein Zagmund, possibly €25 from Wurgl. There is also a bus service but I don't know the info on that- the tourist board can help you out with it :)

I know! Life on the mountain is beginning to pick up pace too, lift passes going on sale is always a great pre-season milestone! ;)

Where is this webcam? I had assumed it was the main lift but I don't see the pond on google maps

That's just below the lift to the top. The slope to the north is blue 47. West drops down into the bowl where the other lifts are.

The camera is behind the main gondel station, at the back of the big cauldron. The slope is the Salvenmoos (2 man chairlift in the bowl), and yes the fishpond is always there, but obv usu frozen over in winter so not as obvious. It's on your left as you ski down towards the red home run :)

Giving serious consideration to a trip to soll in the 1st week of Jan, one quick question, how consistent does the snow tend to be that early in the season?? What are the odds of it being totally slushy, and how many good high slopes are there if conditions aren't great?

Ugh Timmaayyy, how long is a piece of string? If you want guarantees please go somewhere else because I don't do snow depth guarantees and there are people in here who are OBSESSED with them! But I will say that my personal experience is that there is always plenty of in-season snow in Soll, so January should be absolutely fine :) xxx

Ha that sounds fine so, I'm prb reading into some posts here too much so, I don't care about how deep the snow actually is, once I get my skiing fix ha!

Last season had DIRE snow pretty much everywhere in Europe, but the snow cannon infrastructure in Soll is top class, and most slopes are north facing so no slopes in Soll were closed, even though other resorts were badly affected. So if you're staying on piste and not looking for loads of fresh powder I'd have no hesitation in recommending it. And January usually had plentiful powder anyway :)

Thanks for the great info! Hoping to book for a week in Jan/Feb myself with a few people (If I can get them :P). Crystal ski is looking at ~800e minimum for a week (All in) which seems high enough. Hopefully can do it cheaper going DIY!

If that's EVERYTHING in, that's not bad, but you have all the info you need to price it DIY too, so happy days! Just DON'T use the garage they recommend, go to the one under the gondola. That's a key piece of advice :)

Wouldn't include lift pass, lessons or rental. The norm for Soll that I've paid in the past is about 7 to 8 with crystal. I'm going diy myself this time as I'm going for New Years.

We go everything (not lessons, but skis, pass, board inc packed lunch and booze) for about 900 in the 3 valleys with crystal 2 years ago, pity there aren't more deals like that :(

If you DIY it in self catering, you''ll get the week for around €800 in Soll, incl lessons :-)

If you have enough people to get an apartment on the cheap. I'm actually a big fan of half board but it only works if all your crew are in the same place. I've had so much noodle soap before dinner.

Sorry I meant B&B- if you book early enough an apartment would be cheaper again! Tourist board is great for this :)
