As the thread title suggests. If you have bought a tv, or have been given one recently within the last 6 months, where did you get it and how much did it settle you back?

This can also be used to compare prices and also see how much a tv has dropped in price within the last 6 months.

You may also wish to include how the customer service of the retail outlet or website was.

    Thanks.

    Sparky.

I had been looking at so many TV's for so long I thought that i'd never make a decesion that ticked all the box's such as price, features and response times. Gladly though this TV did just that. I had originally bought it for €1,999 but due to a mini price war that happend a week after I bought it DID honoured a reduced price of €1,499 and I got €500 back. They didn't have to do this and I feel it was a great customer service gesture.

The TV itself looks highend with a shiny black surround that looks gorgeous and will have all your mates wanting one. Besides looking good though, it also plays a great picture. I find regular cable great, but Chorus MMDS a little grainy at times but I blame Chorus for that one and DVD's have never looked better. It produces a good black picture and ghosting is rarely seen unless the scene is particularly quick moving.

I'm sure a more detailed eye would be able to spot some flaws, but I'm usually the one to find fault in nearly all my big purchases, to the point where my wife will always ask me what I don't like about whatever I bought, but when she asked the same question about this TV I simply replied 'Shhh dear, the movie is starting' :D.

    TV: Samsung PS-42 C7 S 107
    Type: 42" Plasma
    Date Ordered: 06-12-2006
    Price: €1,444 (including €80 delivery)
    Bought From: www.technikdirekt.de
    Retailer Satisfaction: Happy So far
    TV Satisfaction: Not yet delivered

Well, after much deliberation, and much research, I picked this TV from this supplier for the price, features, reputation and looks.

I e-mailed the supplier yesterday morning asking them about delivery, and warranty issues. Within the hour the had replied stating it was €80 delivery from Germany to my door. They stated I had a 2 week cooling off period from the delivery date, which I could retunr the TV and get a full refund. They also stated that the warranty meant I could get the TV repaired in Ireland or Germany in the event it breaks down.

Yesterday afternoon, I ordered online and received confirmation almost immediately.

This morning I received an e-mail from them asking for a fax/scan of my credit card and valid ID, with the first 3 blocks of numbers on the card blocked out. (I also blocked out my signature on my drivers license).

So now waiting on what happens next.
I must photo the installation for the 'Home Cinema DIY' forum.

Ordered on a Monday arrive in 3 days with no problems at all.

The TV is fantastic, can't fault the colour, contrast or brightness. HD image quality is perfect but SD content is a little disappointing although that comparing it to CRT. PC looks great and it does 1:1 over VGA, 26" porn FTW :D If I was buying again I'd have no problems going for it again

Whilst initially shocked by the size of the tv (the gf was not happy) all was well. Particularly when she watched Seabiscuit in all it's glory)...

It's a good looking set. Viewing angles are the best I've seen from an LCD. A good remote and well organised clean menus.

The picture took some tinkering with but I'm very happy. Picture over hdmi and scart is excellent. The xbox 360 also looks fantastic. NTL is variable ie. depends on the channel. Sky one looks particularly rubbish whilst RTE is excellent.

Sound is quite acceptable but a additional speakers will be bought eventually.

There is one niggly issue with tuning the analogue NTL channels in but I'm not sure if that's purely me.

    Overall, very happy.

    Note:
One point for anyone using this company & their website - the address fields that are presented when ordering are in the German format and don't lend themselves well to Irish addresses. I ended ringing the courier following the receipt of the shipping email where it became apparent that, despite my best efforts with said fields, my address had been truncated. This resulted in my package being delivered without any delays. My number was correct so they may well have rang me to confirm my address once it hit the country.

www.1staudiovisual.co.uk were an english company I found through the web, this was my first time dealing with them. They have a nice login feature where you can track your orders and ask Customer service questions you then get a very quick email response usually in under two hours.

They initially had a problem with my dilivery address being different from my CC address but once I faxed over a copy of my drivers licence they were happy to diliver to another address.

The TV itself is fantastic and worked perfectly from the box, picture quality is also great. No complaints as of yet

Just got the new Samsung LE32R88BD from Currys. - €1099
Looks great and good sound improvements from the 74 model.
3 HDMI's too so all good fo future.

BTW, Harvey Norman are not living up to there "won't be beaten on price, range or service" motto.
I saw TV's there that were more expensive then elsewhere but they wouldn't match the price like Currys, Dixons, DID do. The 3 different staff I encountered had poor knowledge and got bullish when I said they seemed a little expensive! Said the other shops were selling below cost!
Will be beaten on price, range(Currys) AND Service!

Retailer Satisfaction: Very Happy. Everything went smoothly. Delivery could've been a bit quicker, took 7 working days, but i did order late in the day, and it took another day to process, so could've cut it down to 5 days probably.

Delivery Satisfaction: Apart from the week wait, delivery was great. Plasma was shipped from Germany to Naas. I then got a phone yesterday saying they had received the package and would deliver it to me in Dublin tomorrow. They asked me if i wanted it before lunch or in the evening but couldnt give me a specific time due to traffic etc. But they came at 11.30, just when i expected them. Plasma came wrapped and standing vertically on a pallet and everything was in great condition.

TV Satisfaction: Only had about 3 hrs time on it.. but Xbox 360 and Superbit DVD looked fantastic. Analog SD varies from good (BBC, ITV, RTE) to OK (Ch4, E4, etc) But the bad channels were always bad.. even on my old CRT.. so its the signal. Haven't been able to get sound from the stereo leads on my VGA cable for my Xbox 360 but ill have another fiddle around to see if i can.

(Ill edit this as i go along)

I'd been thinking about getting an LCD for sometime, but as I don't have a High Definition source to feed into it I was concerned how my DVD's and NTL Digital would look on it. I was prepared for lots of pixelation.
I enquired with the guys in Peats and told them my concerns and they reccomended me the above Panasonic. By no means is it the cheapst LCD around, but there is virtually no pixelation with DVD's which is quite astounding. I've ran a few HD files downloaded from the web using my laptop and the picture looks great so I can't wait to get a proper HD source and see how that looks.

Overall I'm happy with the service I received and the TV is fantastic.

TV is great, nice picture, good sound. DVDs are awesome. Pity about terrestrial except possibly Planet Earth broadcasts.

One problem there was a noticable buzzing from the rear. Rang Powercity and they put me through to Samsung support who had a guy out straight away. Took him a while to come back, but fixed the problem with some damping tape to stop a cable vibrating against the casing. All's well that ends well.

Haven't as yet put in the surround sound, just been slow to buy a system, the rooms all pre wired. Although from the forums it looks like I've used crap cabling. We'll see how it pans out when I get a system.

Blows me away especially on x360 and HD rips from PC....SD on terrestial is waaay better than expected and DVD is looking great.
Bit worried about screen retention especially using it for anything on the PC...so going to avoid using PC for first 200 hrs, just to be safe.

Topvision leave a lot to be desired as a retailer...bad comunication leads to the buyer being left second guessing and the first thing I knew about it was when the TV arrived 3 weeks later. The courier it turned out had the wrong phone no for me so I wasn't called in advance...luckily someone was home.
But you can't argue with their prices...

...on luzerntech.co.uk, through their ebay link. It's a 32" Philips LCD with 1 HDMI, one Component In, 2 Scarts and S-Video, for €418 including delivery.

They specialise in selling products that have been opened but unused (at least in my case anyway---the setup menu automatically loaded up when I switched it on, and there wasn't a single fingerprint on the thing!

Very happy with the HD quality of the screen. Handles 720P and 1080i (though the latter is a little unnecessary, as the native res is 1366x768). Contrast SEEMS low at 600 to 1 but in my eyes it's sharp, clear and bright. However SKY looks sh1t---probably more due to the fact that the Irish signal is so heavily compressed.

Retailer satisfaction: Happy - had heard bad things, decided to go for it anyway. Turned out fine in the end.
TV satisfaction: Happy, but not fully tested yet.

First of all, I had thought a bit about ordering from Pixmania as I'd heard a lot of bad stories about their deliveries. Figured it was probably a minority however, so I went for it. Ordered on a Thursday in work, but was asked for proof-of-address as a security check, so didn't get that done until Friday. Wasn't actually expecting it to take the 4-5 days estimated for delivery through regular postal channels so was pleasantly surprised when it arrived on Friday lunchtime.

The TV itself I am happy with. I'm using it for Xbox 360 gaming and DVD watching; plan on getting a DVD player with upscaling in the future at some point. The games look beautifully crisp and run fine at 1080i input. DVDs look like DVDs, no HD yet but once I get a sound system to go with the TV I can hook up my laptop and get the full experience. Quite happy with it so far, but as I said above, haven't really had a chance to put it through its paces yet.

    Hi All,

After a considerable amount of research thanks to boards.ie and avforums.com, I decided to upgarde my panny TH-37PA30 with the following:

With 1staudiovisual.co.uk, after having to scan be driver's license and c'card, I ordered yesterday evening, got several responses from them today and a despatch by 4pm from the UK the following:

    1 x PANASONIC DVDS53EBK DVD PLAYER £94.00

(great reviews on upscaling, saw this recently when working in Vancouver for 3 weeks in Sept. quality was excellent even when I asked the panny sales guy to pop in a region 2 Schindlers List DVD I bought in Heathrow, but just as impressed when I saw a HD Divx of Las vegas that i burned on DVD downloaded from the web!)

    1 x PANASONIC TH42PX70 42 INCH PLASMA TV WITH CABINET £962.00

As a panny fan for the last 3 years and no problems with my TH37PA30 (Even with HTPC) when I read the spec and the reviews on the web I knew this was the one for me, also looked at the Sony W2000 LCD and all the offers with H.Norman, DID, Powercity, Richer Sounds etc.

Parents recently purchased 2 x Sony Bravia LCD's connected to NTL, picture quality is awful on cable

1 x HDMI CABLE 2m £35.24 - I know you can cheaper in this case in Ireland, but what the hell, saves a day out with the 3 kids and wife to Harvey Norman etc.!

BTW delivery was 129STG, considering the nice panny cabinet was the equivelant of 340Euro, as opposed to the 500 - 600 being charged here was worth the delivery charge.

All in all I saved 390euro without having to get up from the PC.

Expect delivery on Monday or Tuesday at the latest,if I get a chance will post some photos.

    Next purchases will be;

SKY HD rang Sky direct today, even though I just purchased another new SKY+ box (160euro, other one faulty after 3 years) last month after having a SKY+ for 3 years and a customer for 7 years, they still were looking for 449e and 49e install (I have CT100 cabling thorughout the house OCT LNB with 2 x SKY+ and 1 by old Sky Digi, girl on phone stated I needed 2 new cables from the dish!)

One for you all to check out is the Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo EV i2565 (http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/Resources/246/1871269163.pdf)
This rocks, have had a couple of Scaleo E's over the past 2 years, this one looks like a traditional DVD, but has Vista home premium with Blue Ray HD DVD Combo drive, HDMI, 7.1 Audio, Media center ther works. Download Powerstrip and you can force resolutions on almost any display. Have an older one in the bedroom on a 28" LCD and even the wife stays awake to watch shows downloaded from the web!

TV satisfaction: WOW!!! huge diff to the 21" CRT :eek:

First off its a big set in my current lil sitting room , but whenever we get around to building that wee homestead, am sure it'll fit right in. The set itself, IMHO, looks better out of the box than in the shop. I have it on the pedestal, which is a hefty piece in its own right and it looks great. SD tv (NTL) looks as good as i thought it would - some channels are a lil pixally, but mostly all look good with no ghosting whatsoever. Can't wait to see what matches are like.
Just played a DVD through the xbox and even with the xbox downgrading to 576p it looked hundreds of times better than our crappy cheapy DVD player.
Am having a few beers, a good DVD and maybe a game or two on it tonite, so will update should I have any problems :p:D.
