Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.
Thanks all.

Is a low level format the key to deleting the hard disk to a sufficient level?

Just to say here that I don't expect to be visited by the FBI. Nor do I want to crush and shred it.

I have Hirens ready to boot - thanks.

    Thanks.

You could have a look here.

Actually, Hiren has a lot of these tools anyway. Do the boot and nuke and you should be ok. Formats and writes over every sector I believe..

DBAN which is the "boot and nuke" option on Hiren meets the US DoD's own standards for data erasure, so you should be fine, even with the FBI. Just note that it doesn't work for SSDs, you'll need other tools for that.
