    Translation: I am gay.

See, that's the attitude I mentioned earlier.

How often do you shave yours?

Ah, I just read your response to Sea Filly. This picture keeps changing, doesn't it? Yesterday, your argument was 'it's a personal preference' which, is fair enough. Now you're claiming it reduces smell and makes them easier to clean. In that case men should also be shaving under their arms, and regularly too, not just when the weather is hot.

To be honest, I'd have far more respect for a man who wants a woman to shave under her arms if he didn't try to make it a female-only thing. Like one of the posters on here (think it was Gummy Panda) who says he does it too. It's the one rule for women, another rule for men I reject. I've been saying this since my first post: underarm hair isn't one of life's beautiful things ( in my view), so there really shouldn't be a gender divide regarding who it's acceptable on and who should remove it. I don't understand why this simple logic fails so many.

    +1

What I've done has nothing to do with women and what they should do, now does it? I have no idea where you'd assume that because I did something before, it should mean that women should only do it when I've done it. It's like saying "Well I only drink cocktails on holidays, so women should only drink cocktails on holidays too"

    Daftest analogy I've ever heard.

I said from the start that it's hygienic.

So men should do it constantly do it too then, if it's a hygiene, rather than aesthetic issue, yes?

It need to be after your daft post.

If they want to. The same way women do it because they want to and they feel it looks better and feels nicer to them!

Asking if men should also shave as it's unhygienic, as you said is daft?

Why not just admit that you don't like the aesthetic of a woman with hairy armpits?

    that's not what you said...
"So you don't all the time? So, women only need to in hot weather? Kewl."
That was daft. You're trying to take something I said about what I did personally because it's my preference and apply it all members of the opposite sex.

I've admitted that a few times, have you been reading the thread?

You said in hot weather, you might remove it for hygiene reasons. So it should be the same for women, yes? If your reason for disliking it is purely for hygiene, that is.

If it's your preference, that's cool, but it can't be based on hygiene based on what you said above, so it must be for other reasons. So I really don't know why you brought up hygiene at all.

for me, the reason I did it personally was for hygiene. And I've said that on a woman I find it looks gross which is aesthetics.

Bit OTT calling it disgusting though.

Why? Look up the meaning of the word. To me, and a lot of people, it does look disgusting.

I'm a man and shave my armpits.

Makes the gunz look bigger :P

    Translation: I am gay.

So majority of athletes in the world are gay now?
More and more males are shaving/waxing bodyparts, myself included. Not from pressure, media whatever, because it feels better, looks better and sweat doesn't stink up as much, especially if you are an active person.
Oh and usually the people coming out calling people gay over the stupidest things are usually gay themselves and trying to hide away from it ;)

It's just the pits. They can have a hairy minge if they want just shave the armpits please.

And this is from someone who is not attracted to women at all!

I am a woman! I have a friend who is a feminist and didn't shave her armpits. She never had any trouble scoring - even in sleeveless tops. She's very good looking and is a laugh which leads me to think it mustn't be a complete turn off for the opposite sex.

Wow. THe whole gay thing gets thrown around here as an insult a lot doesnt it? If I was gay I imagine I'd be pretty pissed off at that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭Crooked Jack

On the shaving thing, I'd prefer she shaved her pits, but that comes second to her legs. I like nice smooth legs. I like licking legs.

I can guarantee you that you'd be wrong there. I'm male and live on this planet and would give a ****e. While I'm sure I'm a very special and unique individual I don't think I'm that special or unique. Not 1 in 3.5 billion unique in anyways. ;)

It's not nonsensical. It's a matter of personal preference, sure. But I could easily present a perfectly intelligible meaning for why I prefer less hair, it shouldn't be that difficult to consider the aesthetic and practical reasons someone would not appreciate lots of hair in certain places.

I won't even bother addressing the silly prepubescence ****e.

Well I'm female and also happen to inhabit this earth (check above post), as for the prepubescent '****e' you should check out Mill Millingtons survey!
I think a woeful repulsion to something that is actually natural is odd to be honest.

I have a friend who is a feminist and didn't shave her armpits.

I'd hazard a guess that the supposed association between hairy women and feminism is pretty insulting to a lot of feminists. Maybe a few could comment on it to clarify.

Fear and loathing of women's bodies, fear and loathing of gay people. Not surprising in a thread devised for teenagers

I think it's disgraceful, ye should be ashamed of yerselves, what would your mother say etc

I just prefer shaven women, and no, I don't watch porn.

Why are you all even arguing with each other over this?

Seems kinda pointless since men who prefer unshaven have posted in this thread, which proves that hair on women is down to personal preference more than anything else.

I once shaved my downstairs region years ago at the behest of my OH.
Never again, the itching as it grows back is almost unbearable.

The reason she didn't shave was because she believed that it was something imposed on women so men would find them sexually attractive as part of the objectification of women. It's not a random association. Use your noggin.

I suspect, and I may be wrong here, that Smash meant the assumption/form of ridicule that all feminists are hairy; rather than all feminists who are hairy aren't remaining hairy for feminist reasons, as your friend did.

Bit of a tongue twister that one, hope it's followable.

Already stated I wouldn't call someone disgusting, but the appearance of hairy armpits is disgusting looking to me, especially when sweaty. I never called anyone smelly. And I'm sure if a woman asked a man to shave, they would.

Depends where your preferences lye doesn't it. If you don't like the appearance or feeling of hair then you would consider it wrong disregarding your washing habbits.

well that's just fact, still doesn't mean that people should accept and stop shaving it if they don't want to.

I wasn't accusing you of calling women smelly. I was just referring to some people on this thread who have suggested it's unhygienic. And I never said people should stop shaving, just that they should be able to without being called disgusting or smelly.
Just because someone has more hair, doesn't mean they are less hygienic than someone who doesn't have hair. But some people here are simplifying it and presuming that hair = smelly/dirty, when in reality it's more complex. Sure, there's a possible higher chance of people with hair being more prone to being smelly...but it's only a possibility, it's not fact.

I get that you have your opinion, and that's completely fair - I'm sure if I was male, I would have a slight preference to shaven women, but I wouldn't make such a big deal about it, and start throwing out stupid and simple arguments about hygiene (again, not necessarily aimed at you) and "oh she'll never find a man" (anyone hairy women I know have men), because really, it's just a bit of hair. And people are acting like it's so much more.

Who effing cares, hair or no hair. I couldn't give a sh*t. If you want to shave, shave, and if you don't, don't.

Loving the statements that if a woman doesn't shave she is not looking after herself though :D Hilarious. :D

Some amount of rubbish on this thread. I think the funniest parts are the denials that porn/and wider media has influenced people's perceptions.

  • The woman in the article is rank, I nearly got sick eating a sandwich when I saw the pics last week.

To be fair though I don't know any women who don't find hairy armpits, legs etc on another woman equally as disgusting as any man does. I've seen women look away in disgust on holidays on seeing a women by the pool with hairy pits.

On the other hand, men should not be saving their legs, chests etc.

I have also shaved the whole thing off only twice. I now trim.

Awful! After shaving your hair grows back very bluntly and sharply in an extremely sensitive area and it is unbearable!

If a woman is walking around with trousers it's likely she has hairy legs....there's a hairy woman near everyone reading this thread...:)

Google women with hairy armpits and some nice images of models come up. It's just because men are so used to seeing hairless women that they think hairy women are vile, so we need to get pictures seen more!

You doubt that? Ha little do you know! hehehe hairy women covertly everywhere.

Seriously would you bother shaving a big area if no-one was going to see it. Why would you? I only shave my legs if I know I'm going to be wearing a skirt on a night out, maybe once every three weeks.
