    Well Folks,

I'm planning on spending a period of time in Germany this summer,I'm currently in 2nd year studying German at University so need to become fluent(currently I can speak German very well). Just wondering if anyone knows good agencies or recommened places that are usually willing to offer jobs to students? I'd like to do something like bar work maybe, but overall not too fussed.

    Thanks,

    Can only speak for Berlin.

If you are interested in bar work, try some Irish pubs in Berlin:
    http://www.irishpubberlin.de/
    http://www.kilkenny-pub.de/
    http://www.oscar-wilde-irish-pub.de/
    http://www.celtic-cottage.de/
    http://www.blarney-pub.de/cms/
    http://www.murraysbar.de/
    http://www.finnegans-public-house.de/
    http://www.molly-malones-berlin.com/
    http://www.thelir.de/
    to mention just a few...
I'm sure they are pleased to have an original Irishman pulling pints ;)

Or try www.berlinstory.de. It's the most comprehensive book & gift store in Berlin and the owner prides himself to have international interns. Place is very busy, especially in summer.

Best thing is anyway to contact businesses directly and not using any agencies.

But don't expect wages like in Ireland.

    Good luck.

I read this last week and within 3 days i sorted work out in Berlin Story which is also a museum the owner has told me. I'm off there in 2 weeks(got loose ends to tie up here in France at the moment) for the summer. The Irish bars, and I've applied to every one, haven't bothered replying. Some are closed, but there are still dozens of them in the Berlin area. I figure I'll be best off looking for evening work(dead on about the wages) when I get there directly. The owner is even letting me stay 2 weeks with him until I find a place(will probably try for a college room).

Maybe the only useful people when looking for work abroad are other Irish people. German friends that I met here just directed me to sites although none of them are from Berlin.

I read somewhere else that you can get jobs cleaning in supermarkets or something in the morning for 300 euro a month. Any other advice? Thanks.

the Irish pubs in Munich are coming down with people sending on applications in advance looking for summer jobs so Berlin could well be the same.

anyhow, in Munich a staple of student summers is working in the many beergardens collecting glasses etc.
And theres other casual labour available through the students union job office (or whatever its called).

Theres been shag all students coming over to Munich recently compared to the massive numbers in the 80s and 90s and early 2000s but with the lack of money in Ireland now maybe destinations nearer to home that are cheaper to get to than USA and Australia might see a resurgence!

(Sorry I know this thread is 2 years old now, but looking for some help)
I'm just on a year out from college, and I'm planning on moving to Germany for the year. Currently just in the early stages of trying to get some work before I head out there, and I'm just wondering if you did end up going over and getting work in those places? Or was Berlin Story a decent place to work? I haven't made contact with any work places over there as of yet. Just if you had any advice in general, I'd be very thankful :)

Am a German from Dortmund. If still looking I might help.

Just wondering are there many job opportunities available for a student who is on a year out? (Willing to do most types of work.) Or where is a good area to go in Germany for such opportunities? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Munich has a healthy economy with a strong Irish presence. Definitely bar work available if thats what you might be looking for.

    Other internships might be available.

    Maybe check toytown munich http://www.toytowngermany.com/munich/

Lived in Munich for a year back in 2011. One of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had, if it had much of a banking sector, I'd move back tomorrow.

There will be plenty in the bigger citys like Hamburg, Bremen, Hannover, Dortmund, Essen, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Nurnberg, Munich & Berlin. Should check what area you would like most to stay at (they are actually very different) and then have a look.
