    600L Planted tank, day 1.

Substrate supports still visible, as are some of the root stopper pots; but they'll all be covered within the first 40-50 days.

Looks great. What are your plans for the background? I think a simple black background would look great.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,135 ✭✭✭TheVoodoo

Thanks, probably just black or dark navy background, externally. Still not 100% sure though..

Just finishing setting it up. 160L tank. Just 5 tiger barbs and a ancistrus in it now. And a bad ass assassin snail who hitched a ride from the old tank to the new one on a decoration. :D

I'm planning on some more tiger barbs initially.

well so far so good anyway,i think they've learned already to leave it alone that its not food.i'll be moving them to another tank soon and getting shrimp for that one so the shrimp will probably trapse it round the tank.its much finer than i thought it was.i originally wanted a coarser blue stone to give a little lake effect but everywhere i checked always seemed to be out of stock.maybe i'll stick a little volcano decoration in and have it as my lava pit

Lovely looking tank! How long it is setup?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,159 ✭✭✭daz801

Started the tank mid January and finally finished stocking it last week. It's a 30g juwel rio with an eheim classic 250 filter. Got a pleco, 16 cardinal tetra and 2 pearl gourami in it at the moment. The pleco graduated from my 10g tank that he had outgrown (I bought him with the plans of setting up this tank a lot sooner than i did) and I plan on moving him up to a 75g tank I'm planning.

Hi, I used a 'Limpopo black' aqua sand. Its a very fine gravel. Under this is ADA, and environment planted substrates.

Looks great, where did you get the sand from ?

That's come on really nicely eg6 vtec.

Next step: replace the plastic with real plants! (or do cichlids just destroy them?)

  • Registered Users Posts: 240 ✭✭eg6 vtec

they wouldn't last at all, some people have great success but its very rare, much easier to go plastic for now any way, my over all plan is to replace everything with slate rock in the next few months, aqua scaping is a never ending thing and i really enjoy doing it

Tell me about it... currently saving for a total re-fit of my own tanks: a doubling in size of my planted tank and a conversion of my 180 to marine!

its an addiction, i have a similar plan when i upgrade this tank, always wanted to give the salt water a try

Relocated my tank to the living room, finally! I got rid of the anubias that was destroyed with BBA and am hoping that the new north facing location will help with the rest. Current stock 1 BN pleco, 6 glowlight tetras, 3 male C. Apisto, 1 cardinal tetra (going to up that to 10 over the next couple of months). Had a heart attack moving the pleco - she stuck out her cheek spikes and got stuck in the net! We managed to stretch the net enough to get her out, but I never want to do that again!

salt is one of those "OMG don't do it it's so difficult" things, but if you'd done a tropical or two and gotten used to what a happy tank (and it's inhabitants) needs it's really not that big of a jump and if you start small, it's not really that different at all.

i went from a 55L tropical community tank, up to a 260L, then converted the 55L to marine with a couple of clowns, seahorses and shrimp etc. and then moved the marine one up to a 90L.

the only difference is that it takes longer and costs a bit more to get set up and it can go wrong a lot quicker if things do go bad, so better to keep it small to iron out the kinks, but definitely give it a go, it's well worth the effort imho. :)

As promised here's your glowlight's new home kylith! All settling in nicely so far at least! Thanks again!

Looks good, glad they've gone to a new home. My tank looks so empty without them!

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,134 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Just noticed, you can see one my beloved Scarlet Tetras I was telling you about in the bottom of the pic of the CO2 can (I got that for about €15 in Artane Aquatics).

I'm sure it won't be long before you have the new cardinals in your main tank :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,736 ✭✭✭✭kylith

That is a gorgeous wee fish alright.

It'll be Saturday week before they graduate to the big tank, then I'll be running at least 2 more lots of 6 through to make a school somewhere around 25-30 in the big tank. That should give me time to decide whether to keep my Apisto or to rehome him and get a betta.

I must get a FTS now I have all the wood and the new plants in. Once they're established in a couple of months it should look pretty good in there.
