tougher punishment needs to be implemented now, because if someone got done netting a river nothing happens ...

That's simply not true, fishery officers only relish the chance of bringing contraventions of fishery legislation to court. Officers enchourage us anglers to report suspect matters as soon as possible as that way the system works more effectivly. Fishery officers are getting thin on the ground, my suggestion is get to know who is your local officer and let him know about what is going on. Court/fines and names in newspapers are most unwelcome from the poaching fraternity:)

Its to get them up to breeding size. While not exact, this size will be indicative of a fish that has reached sexual maturity and can reproduce. If we were to take fish that never had the chance to reproduce, we soon would be without any fish at all.

Could anyone inform me about the regulations regarding catching sea trout at sea? I dont know if its something to do with the netting ban and better watch on our rivers but there seem to be alot more sea trout about taking my mackerel bait on the beaches when fishing for flatfish. Do the same river rules apply or what? I return the ones I catch but just wondering cheers

You need rod license fishing for sea trout whether in freshwater or sea. The regulation is for the species.

I have created a fishing group in Dublin. The idea being to organize some fishing of all kinds in different venues and meet new people at the same time. Also to allow for knowledgeable people to teach less experienced ones. Joining is absolutely free and there is no commercial interest expect maybe to get group discounts. In any case I was wondering if I have the right to post a link to it here?

    Thanks for prompt reply.

I used this site to buy some reels and found it very good:

    http://www.veals4carp.com/

Not sure how much stuff they had, but they had the reel I was looking for, it was over €50 cheaper than in a shop in Dublin and they didn't charge for shipping. Got it delivered in 2 days too.

Created the following group to gather people interested in fishing and organize group fishing events/trips:

No cost associated to joining. You can teach and guide or be taught and guided.

Been a while since I got one but used to be able to get them in the Downshire House Hotel in the middle of the town or in the Texaco garage on the left as you head out of the town toward the overflow.
Use of livebait is not permitted.

For those with a facebook account the Inland Fisheries Ireland facebook account is good enough. Plenty of daily updates on fish caught around the country.

They do have a great site but the problem is there are over 5000 lakes and 1000 rivers in ireland, the central fishery board only care about the big rivers and most productive lakes. As your a registered user with a couple of thousand posts, what i suggest you do is actually to shut down this tread because what your saying is there is no need for it. :D

Havnt time to go through them all so if anyone comes across any dead links just report the post and I'll delete them or update them.
    Cheers.

I think this thread should be deleted and a new one started for a few reasns.
    • The regulations listed on the first post (which is the first thing people see) is a good few years old and out dated.
    • The links in the last post before mine dont work.
    • There are no regualtions for coarse fishing anywhere in this thread

I have no problem with that - I have no idea what has happened to the links above.
