Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Teach glas (Tigh glas is the Munster version) is very good if you are just beginning.

    For Munster Irish there is Scéilín Ó Bhéilín.

    The Open Door series from New Island is an adult literacy series of novellas by well-known Irish authors. Some were translated into Irish, and are also available as audiobooks.

    And there is a list of similar books on siopagaeilge.ie under Foghlaimeoirí Fásta / Adult Learners

    The Irish versions of the Open Door series are very bad. I have read all of them and they are in very poor Irish, i.e. the Irish has a very heavy influence from English syntax.

    Sceon na Mara is a well written book on the Foghlaimeoirí Fásta list on Conradh na Gaeilge's site.

    In general, it is best to read books written by writers from the Gaeltacht. Panu Höglund is a very good non-native writer, one of the few I've heard native speakers praise. He has a Lovecraft book (Cthulu stuff) which I really liked.

    Dúnmharú ar an Dart is a good read and not overly difficult but you'll need a reasonable understanding.

    At a similar level, "Gafa" and "Hurlamaboc" are worth a look. They've been used for the Leaving Cert in recent years.
