Whatever happened to the proposed redevelopment of the Park Shopping Centre with new campus entrance and student accom? Last I heard they got planning permission but nothing since. Also I note that the bus connects plans indeicate the main Blanch-City cycle route going through Grangegorman.

DIT (along with ITT and ITB) is now TUD

if ye ask me it's a step down when it comes to branding. DIT if anything reminded me brand wise of MIT.

I'm gussing they want to be more like their EU counterparts -- ie TU Delft, TU Dresden etc?

I imagine it's more to do with keeping up appearances with DCU, UCD, MU.

Say what you will about Trinity, but at least they stick with TCD and not UD (or is it DU?) as their acronym.

Anyone one know where or how to find St Lawrence Hall, Grangegorman? Google or the campus website is not proving helpful. Even a way finder image/map would be great, thanks.

Just put St Lawrence and Grangegorman into Google Maps and it pops up.

They can't really call it DIT though with the others involved.

The whole point is to move from an IT to a TU, so it's to emphasise that they are a TU for whatever it is worth.

To my eye, they haven't got the new graphic design of their materials right. The old light blue and DIT badge looked a lot classier. But, maybe I showing my age. I assume it's meant to appeal to younger people, but is it not just ugly.

So this got me interested it looks like ABP have approved ref: 302749, which is 289 bed units beside Grangegorum Luas Stop. http://www.pleanala.ie/casenum/302749.htm

This is part of a larger scheme with 4262/16 approved by Dublin City Council already and the much smaller 4674/18 currently under review by Dublin City Council.

That sure is a chunk of student accommodation. It's good to see.

Yep, I had a quick look at the planning report and it mentioned that the two would be managed as together.

Pity the same can't be said about the Eastern Quad, the external finish looks awful in the photo above.

Yes, I'm nervous about the architecture of both quads judging by the drawings --they looked cheap. Was hoping for the best.

If people want I can take a few more pictures of the quads east and central, its my walk home to and from work at the moment

I wonder whether this will makes a September 2020 opening for the two new quads impossible.

Construction sites must be experiencing a lot of difficulties. I heard of one site where the German roofing contractor simply upped sticks and went back to Germany. And that's a site with €50,000 penalties per week delay.

And the staff move in and readying must be impossible.

I would say at least a one semester delay if not a full year.

I would be surprised if they moved during the academic year. I'd say it will either be this September or next September.

From what I can see cycling, driving and walking around Dublin, the building sites seem to be in full swing, even working paddys day.

I agree from what I see, but for how long. The problem is organizing the transition. It would have been tightly planned.

The building sites wont be in full swing if Unite union have their way, apparently some building sites in Dublin its impossible to keep a 2 metre distance between workers.

The whole area is still just a series of building sites. No sign much of students.
