Here is a link to a stolen boat advertised on www.donedeal.ie

I've no connection to it, just feel bad for the guy. Would it be possible to make this thread a sticky? Could prove useful to somebody in getting their boat or outboard back if it is stolen.

Another one to keep a eye out for it's a 3.5m Honwave with a Honda BF15 taken in Cork.
The link is from SEA Angling Ireland http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bulletin%20board/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=39214&sid=4851a5a8d96d53df2e9412d87d774701

And while I'm at it a few parts that were stolen from the "Naomh Eanna" the ship is under restoration in Dublin and she has had her Compass, telegraph and wheel taken. If you spot them you can contact the trust here http://www.facebook.com/pages/Naomh-Eanna-Trust/211241455563057 or your local Garda.

An interesting success story from Norway (where they have many of the very same troubles we have here).

Basically, a white van was stolen in Norway and used by the thieves to drive around unnoticed and steal outboards.

    Varebil.jpg

A member of the public saw the van parked up beside a Polish truck and things being moved from one to the other.

    Lastebil_02.jpg

Police arrived, questioned the men and searched the vehicles. In the snow chain compartment on the truck they found stolen outboards.

All the men were arrested and are awaiting trial. The police believe the engines were stolen to sell on when back in Poland.

A few engines have been robbed around north Dublin city in the past couple of days. Keep your eyes open and make sure engines are secured.

The locks will help prevent theft but recent outboard thefts appear to be organised with well prepaired thieves. The latest robbery was from a secured club house. Only the engines where removed.

I have heard of some transoms been cut off with a chainsaw just to get the motor:eek:

Another deterrent is to bring the cowling home and just put a bag over the engine. There are a few places in England where the police sell covers like this.

This boat was stolen from the Dollymount Sea Scouts - anyone spots it please inform your local guards.

"Its with regret that we're posting this Album. Please re-post this regardless where you are in Ireland, Northern Ireland or UK. This Boat, a BP 18 was stolen from outside our Scout Den last night possibly between the hours of 5pm on Sunday 16th and 5pm on Monday 17th September 2012. It is a red fibreglass hull (brand new) with brown varnished timber thwarts and gunwales, Light grey inside, it is 18ft long and is on a 4 wheel trailer. It is a brand new BP 18 and the only red fibreglass one made. The hull was the only thing that was stolen. no rigging or fittings were with it. This type of boat is only used by Sea Scouts in Ireland and An Slua Muiri ( Irish Navel Reserves). It has only been used a handful of times since its launch in May this year. We appreciate your help. Somebody may have seen this where you are. Thank you."

came off tv3 news today at 5:30 about stolen outboards, they called outboards sitting ducks, and warned people to be careful. one spokesman came on from an insurance company and said that they came into the harbour and stole a number of outboards, a couple of weeks later they returned and stole the replaced outboards. be careful people.

Engines of this size are not taken as much as the smaller ones because of the effort needed to lift them plus they are normally bolted through the transom if you wanted you could remove one of these nuts and replace it with a locking nut like you would have on car alloy's. A simple and more visible option is to use a good motorbike lock "good quality & cheep, no such thing :) " and lock it to the trailer or to a bolt in the ground.
