Stayed in a site near Labenne ocean about 30 miles North of Biarritz called sylvamer last year. Fantastic pitches and a real find for the whole family. Showers and toilets left a lot to be desired tbh but hey it's camping so it's all good. Watch out for the waves on the beach they can take a life in a second and according to the locals do on a regular basis. Also stayed on a site near Pornic on the coast about an hour from Nantes called La Boutinardiere that was wonderful. Fantastic clean pool area and pitches with the beautiful town of Pornic a 10 minute cycle away. We liked it so much we are going back this year for a week before heading to a friends house in Pau southern France.

We stayed here for an overnight stop in early July 2008. Nice site but not much room for tourers. At that time there was no designated area for motorhomes/caravans. One or two lots between mobilehomes were what was available.

    Near Talmont-St-Hilaire

Campsite close to Futuroscope. Smallish site which backs onto a lake. Clean site and friendly staff. Site shop poor. Only stayed overnight to incorporate trip to Futuroscope. Gate at site closed at 10 so we missed late evening laser show at Futuroscope. Next time we do Futuroscope we will use the aire there. Loooads of spaces.

Lovely site 15 minute stroll from village of Lacanau-Ocean.

Site backs onto the beach which stretches for miles. Lacanau a big draw for surfers. Nice site. Nice staff. If you don't want the beach there is a great pool. 5 minutes cycle into village which has a great greengrocer and also traditional butchershop. Site is expensive during the July/August months but is wonderful. One hour west of Bordeaux.

Lovely site one hour west of Bordeaux. Motorhomes have the choice of being on the bank of a stream area within the site or ( more importantly ) on the bank of the river basin. You can park up on your pitch with a view out over the bassin d'Archachon. Lovely spot in the morning or evening. Nice pool area and they have created a sea water swimming area also. Nice restaurant on site and nice staff. Spotless site. Not many English speaking tourers but my daughter didn't care and went to the all French speaking kids club anyway :). When booking ring up and check what your pitch will be like. They will issue a pitch number when you book. The pitches are different sizes and one even has a tree growing almost in the middle of it :)

Great Aire close to small village of L'Epine, Nourmoutier. €10 per camper per night includes AC. Also water & Services. Close to salt marshes. Loads of bike trails. Wear anti mossie liquid in the evenings.

Spent a night here last year. Really good pool and facilities and also a good price, but I left after 1 night because it was not really designed for Tourers and the few pitches were between Mobile Homes and I got the feeling that the natives were not too impressed when you parked beside them.

Based on the lovely island of Noirmoutier this is another cracker of a campsite that has direct access to the beach.
Has space from tent pitches to Campers. Great heated pool with a nice bar area. Local shop literally at the entrance with a boulangerie just down the road in the local town.
The entertainment was prob the best campsite entertainment we have had (and we have seen many). They had a cuban band who were fantastic and a Country and Western band.
One morning we woke to the sound a mega bouncer being set up for free. See attached YouTube clip of my son.
Generally a great site. The campsite is just off the main road onto the island but highly reccommend a journey across the Passage du Gois (google is your friend).

    Huttopia in Rille.
A fantastic campsite that is in the middle of nowhere but do not let this put off.
Based on a lake in a forest ( if going here keep your eyes open for the entrance as we drove by it).
If you like a bit of night life/entertainment this is not for you. This camping in nature as it should be. In a forest under a natural canopy.
As it was literally brand new when we were there the toilet block/showers was lovely.
The pool was fantastic as it was an infinty pool on the lakeside.
Space for camping and campers. Plus they had Cabanes and Canadiennes (huts)
Cars arent allowed at the placings as they want minimal disruption.

Ahh now that you mention it we stayed in that one about 4 yrs back.
Lovely campsite and right on the beach. No pool though hence why we went looking for a different site the next time we visited.
A very long campsite with a lot of tree's for shade ( as I would imagine is the norm from an indigo site).

In the little town of Saint Germain Les Belles

Lovely little site. Sanitary block a little dated but spotless. Like mentioned in other threads - if you like a bit of night life/entertainment this is not for you.

On the edge of the little town of Avrillé

Nice site with large pitches with own electric and water. The roadway leading up to the reception is single lane so be wary. Nice outside pool, smaller inner pool which was heavily chlorinated. Mostly UK caravans at this site. Only spotted two other motorhomes, and two Irish families :)

Guerande - Domaine De Leveno http://www.camping-leveno.com/

We stayed here for 4 nights in July 2011. This is a very large site which is mostly made up of mobile homes/chalets. There were only a small number of tents and less than 5 motorhomes. The site seems to be expanding even further and there was one whole section of new plots that was virtually empty.

The kids loved this place with the Kamikaze slide (in fairness it is about as high as steep as you can go without hurting yourself when you hit the water), lazy river, indoor pool, outdoor pool, wave pool (was only working once when we were there) and the other smaller slides.

Our pitch did not have water within 20m (so my hose would not reach). This wasn't really a biggie (most of the pitches did have water just not where we were) as we could fill up at the sanitation block. However, there was nowhere to empty the waste water! Strange but true. We asked at reception and were told we could at the sanitation block but we could not find a drain that we could use. Anyway we were able to do it at the local town of Guerande.

Kids club was good but too short. The morning session was only an hour! So not much down time there! The afternoon sessions were longer but didn't really suit us.

This site is about 10km from the beach either at La Turballe or La Baule.

One big downside for us was that we could not find any cycle path in the vicinity of the campsite and it was too far to cycle to the beach.

Hi, have also stayed in the indigo campsite in Noirmoutier last summer, fantastic site, our tent was pretty much on the beach!!!

Heading back to the west coast this summer, arriving from the UK into Calais so want to find a great sight on the west coast with as little driving as possible ( 5 to 7 hours from Calais max )

Would really appreciate any suggestions for beach access sites ( walking distance is fine ) which are also walking distance to the town, village..

    Thanks :)

Also stayed in Indigo Noirmoutier last summer. I thought it was a great spot both the campsite and town itself, but the site wasn't great for the camper. I found getting in and out fairly difficult due to the trees. Then again I'm a complete novice!

    Parthenay

    Camping Le Bois Vert

Stayed here for one night as we made our way up from the south.

Neat little site. Small bar/restaurant (nothing special). Small playground. Shower blocks recently renovated. Some of the power boxes on the pitches need repair/replacement. Site is 10 minute walk from excellent local playground, recently opened, and the local swimming pool which is great too. The town itself is another 10 minute walk further. The old town is lovely to see.

An aire de service is right next store to the campsite managed by the campsite as well. €8 a night. It is on the bank of the lake that seperates the campsite from the park and swimming pool.

    Saint-Hilaire-la-Palud

A few kilometres outside the town of Saint-Hilaire-la-Palud this is a nice spacious site that has ample space for camping and tourers. Nice size pitches. Clean shower blocks and friendly staff. Nice sized restaurant and bar area. We ate at motorhome though.

Drawbacks : it is not easy to take a motorhome from the main road near the town down to the campsite. You drive a few kilometres on a single lane road with the ditch to one side of you and the canal bank on the other. Local traffic wasn't inclined to give way either. For this reason I would not return with my motorhome. Also my daughter was horrified to discover that the crepe she ordered as a snack was a microwaveable one from a supermarket pack :)
