17 year old, first insurance and Honda Civic (especially Jap import) will set alarm bells off with insurance companies. Hondas and VAG stuff are heavily loaded by insurance companies as they are popular for being modified by young drivers.

    Presuming this isn't a troll/WUM;

Forget it. Unless you have rich parents or won the lottery.

Some companies wont quote for cars over 15 years old. Whatever car you pick, using an address down the country will be cheaper. Get yourself an 03 or 04 Corolla 1.4, and fit injectors and a throttle body from an Avensis 1.8 from the same year. Don't forget to tell your insurance company about the modifications.;)

You won't like it when you get an insurance quote!:pac:

A young guy I work with got insurance a lot cheaper on a 2 litre Mercedes than he was being quoted on a Civic 1.4.

There is only one company that MIGHT consider insuring you, but your age, the type of car, engine size, age of car, etc, will go against you. You would have to be 25 before most would even consider you!

    Honda Legend.:pac:
In all seriousness, an Accord would probably be cheaper to insure than a Civic. Less of them being rallied to bits and crashed, so less of a risk to insurance companies.

Be surprised in the accord bit, looking to get an EP1 civic its an extra 500 onto my premium got a quote on an accord newer shape they wanted an extra 1600 :pac::pac:

Any Honda at your age (apart from maybe a Jazz) is going to be a nightmare to insure. I would have said maybe an Accord also, but its a big litre engine which will still have alarm bells ringing.

Best you can do is find some examples and make some calls.

Maybe try Boxymo; they fit a tracker which would be a pain in the arse but it might give you a route to get the car you want.

@djimi What car would you reccomend thanks soo much :)

At your age, a 1.0 or 1.2 will be the only things that you won't get charged a fortune on insurance.

Fiesta, Yaris, Clio, Panda, Punto, Ibiza or Polo would all be fine starter cars.

Depends how much money you have to spend.

    How about a Starlet ? Prob a glanza ? :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Moneymaker

If you want to spend €3000-€4000 on insurance then go for it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 51,100 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

OP, you are targeting the wrong type of car. Insurance companies just load anything like Civics, Glanzas, Integras, etc.

If you want cheaper insurance then you will have to settle for a run of the mill beginners car.

My first car was a Mazda Demio. It was nicknamed the 'Grannyvan' but the insurance was reasonable at least. Bought a Focus at 25, I'd say a Fiesta would be a good bet for you. Forget any notion of having a car you'll want to be seen in at 17, just get whatever has a 1.0 engine and start saving for something better once you've a few years no claims under your belt.

Obtain insurance by deception. Excellent advice.

That's for nothing at your age. I'd be going for that like a shot. Main thing with a Glanza is make sure it's not smokey, and as with all cars, don't scrimp with the tyres. Put a good brand on.
    Good luck.

A glanza with a tracker? That'll be fun :). What's the mileage limit on the policy? You'd be surprised how far you'd drive in the year

If you have gotten a quote of €1500 for a Glanza then more power to you; I would have honestly expected it to be 2-3 times that at least!

Just check the excess; it may be that the excess is such that the car is not covered at all (ie you have a piece of paper to make you road legal but not much else). I have a feeling that Boxymo charge the excess on third party claims also which is not the case with most other insurers. Just be sure that you read and fully understand the policy and especially the small print with a policy like that, and understand exactly what you are and more importantly are not covered for, and what you are signing up for.

1500 for a Glanza? Must be a non turbo?

Im skeptical to say the least.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,001 ✭✭✭LawlessBoy

I was tempted to go with boxymo for my insurance myself because of the price i was given, im already over the mileage they gave me 7 months driving.

Id advise you to have a read of some reviews online before you take out insurance with them. They can cancel your insurance anytime if they feel you arent driving safe by the tracker
