just taught i would start a speedtest thread for people using midband(mobile broadband) as i dont see fit to post midband speeds in the current broadband and ping test thread as mobile broadband is not propper broadband

NOTE:these 2 following tests where taken when nobody else is online (5am)
i will post in the day time tomorrow and peak times to compare

    1:o2 E1752 modem currently 4/5 bars 3G coverage

    o2's ping is horrible:(

You are comparing different speedtest servers. I always get much higher pings from the Dublin server.

yeah i get what you mean but with o2 pings are always over 200ms no matter what server the Dublin one is worse 300ms+

as you can see 3's ping to dublin only goes up by 31ms comapred to the limrick server so not very much of an increase of ping

my god the ping on the first test  1501ms ..does the modem software always show no bars signal??this happens me alot when using o2 it says 0% signal but it still works a bit odd

Zero to 2 bars is normal enough for me. Once it finds the network it will work ok.

mine will show zero when the connection is idle on WCDMA
but if i start loading pages it will show 2bars HSPA
but if i bring the modem to the upstaris in my house it gets full signal then which is great.cant fault o2's service at all really.
recently upgraded to windows 7 and it really does not like the 3 modem for some reason pages hang on boards only and have to disconnect and connect again very annoying had no problems at all on windows xp :(

That is a difference of almost 100 ms.
I find that ping times from the Dublin server are always this much higher.

BTW modem reports a signal of 12% (marginal).

them pings seem really good maybe its just my area that suffers from high pings on o2 but when looking through the web it doesnt seem to load slow at all  73ms ping is very good on mobile broadband lowest ive seen yet 3's ping used to be over the roof here but i noticed they have added extra transmitters to the mast in this area and pings have got wayy better since.is the signal on your modem always so low 12%??sometimes downstairs in my house it shows 0% but still works some areas will drop to EDGE signal where as upstairs it shows 96-99% signal get a speed of 4mb at night time with o2 after 1am

    870164040.png

not to great even for this time of morning still better than the service i got from vodafone...could get a max of 1.5mb off vodafone even at early hours of the morning and there local mast is at the exact same location as 3 was dissapointed with them

My middle of the night speedtest. I can usually get 1.5-2 Mbits during the day, which isn't too bad in my opinion.

Ping is still crappy tho, but whatcha gonna do?!

thats good if you get 1.5-2 Mbits during the day cout yourself lucky lol bit like my 3 service is great during the day whereas o2 crawls along o2 was fine till everyone got their summer hols from school now the speeds go right down but in the early hours i can hit 3.5mb/s with o2.. and about 1.5-3.1 max on 3 all day ..pings are always through the roof with midband they used to be 200ms -350ms with both networks but in recent months they have dropped to 100ms-250 so all is good in this area no one with meteor has posted yet will be interesting to see how meteors service is..:D

    870178206.png

upload with o2 is always way higher than 3 but any files over 700kb that i try to upload with o2 iit just fails have raised this issue with o2 on their own forums alot of people having the same issues bit useless having a upload of over 1mb/s when it doesnt even work !!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yeah, i have an E169G and the upload is limited to 0.3Mbits. If I plug in my old E220 workhorse, the upload speed is much better. In day to day internet usage tho, I rarely notice the slow upload speed :)

I used to have an o2 modem too, but it was slower than Voda, with worse ping times, so I got rid of it. I had the same upload problem too, which was also part of the reason I dumped it! :p

E169G is something the same as the E160G then i suppose lol dire upload speeds but at least the uploads works!:p was your o2 modem a E1752 by any chance its great over all but the upload problem is very very annoying.i dont upload alot but if i did need to and only had credit in my o2 modem id be scrwed seems the upload problem is country wide and is making alot of people leave o2 for that reason!!
not having a go a vodafone but their service was much to bad here during the day i wouldnt even go near my laptop because it was to painfull to use trying to load a 7 minute youtube video took over 30mins and it would be like this even at night so got rid of them in my area 3 seem to come out best have not tried meteor yet have heard they are supposidly the best but all comes down to what area a person is in might give meteor a try in the near future :):)

The E5830, that speedtest was the first time i ever saw such an increase in my upload and it has stayed in the general area.

    870674181.png

On the 3 netowrk - the increased upload coupled with lower ping (80 - 100ms) is due to the new protocol I-HSPA while on ordinary HSDPA the max upload speed is 0.33mbps and an average ping of 160ms plus

    870972184.png

    870975612.png

    19959182.png

    19959296.png

While the download is similar on btoh since only the first evolution of I-HSPA is online coupled with multiple users on a cell - the difference is noticable in the ping and upload due to the max 5.2mbps HSUPA.

o2 and Meteor are using a certain standard of I-HSPA as well with similar pings of 90-110ms with increased upload as well....some modems show the new signal type in the software while others will show it as HSDPA still so the ping is the main indicator of the HSPA if your modem doesnt diffrienciate between I-HSPA and HSDPA

Pity I cant get a constant I-HSPA signal - tends to drop to HSDPA at times when I am using heavy data trasnfer apps and online gaming....and probably because some fecker nearer to the mast starts to hog the bandwidth and signal :(
