Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    If you take to the gate they are enforcing this now, so €25 will be asked of you and the bag put in the hold

    In my recent experience backpacks that can fit under the seat are allowed free of charge in the cabin.

    As long as it’s the only bag you have you’ll be ok. I travel once a month with Ryanair. I take an oversized handbag and my partner a backpack. Never any problem.

    When it comes to Ryanair, I wouldn't ever chance flirting with their strict rules.

    I think you'd be better investing in a cabin bag to suit them and for all your future travel plans.

    You can get something like this for under €20 from Amazon...

    The free allowed size is 40 X 20 X 25.

    The one you’ve posted is the “free” one if you’re priority.

    I'm flying with 2 adults and 3 kids over easter to a warm destination, I didnt book the baggage at the time as the price of the flights was a lot which was really foolish of me. I've gone back in an tried to add a bag but the price is extortionate, my question is, do you think we could do with a bag pack each for the trip or should I pony up the 100 euro.
    Hopefully not resorting to making the coat with the inside pockets!

    Witnessed this now several times, twice now this weekend. When the Ryanair staff at the gate explain that you must pay for the 10kg case just say you have no money.
    It just works, both cases this weekend the Ryanair staff member just walked off. The passengers in question boarded the plane with their 10kg case along with hand bags.

    You can be sure once Ryanair realise people are at it, they will make a rule to counteract it.

    What I can't understand is when they find a small bag blocking space in the overhead locker (and nobody claims it to put it under the seat where it should be) that they do not put that bag off as a safety issue.

    Too many sleeveens not sticking to the agreed rules and messing it up for those who do.

    The choices are pay the €25 fine or abandon the bag.

    If they will not enforce their rules, people will not pay for priority.

    Once it gets to a level where giving in is costing them more money than the potential boarding delays caused by having staff stand firm with those folks would cost them, Ryanair will start cracking down on it harder. There will still be some folks who slip through when a flight is running late or a staff member just doesn't care enough to argue, but it'll be much less common.

    They told me that my rugsack was too big and needed to be checked in at a cost.

    I told them no bother just leave it here I can live without it.

    She told me to go on take the bag with me.

    That's all has to be done a few times and it will stop the sh1te that's happening every few months with Ryanair.

    What’s the safety issue here. Nothing in this small bag is a hazard unless it’s Some MacGyver who have fashioned something from duty free.:rolleyes:

    Seriously though - isn't there a rule about unaccompanied baggage not flying?

    Think the rule you are thinking about came in after the lockerby place crash bombing, where the bombers weren't on the plane, just there luggage.

    I thought they'd been told to exercise judgement on this one until it's bedded in. My point being this is temporary regardless of what it is.

    Should have been Bolshie from day one IMV. The longer the judgement period is, the easier it is for people to think it's fine and chance their arm.

    BTW am a big fan of Ryr. But I do observe their rules. Hate it when others chance it and get away with it. Not good.

    Possibly, but it's their rules and regs. Full refund, but no boarding might happen if your bag's too big.

    Something has to give. People are obeying the rules, but those who don't bother are getting away with it at the same time. Not good.

    What is the official line on this as when the Ryanair member of staff was stating that the woman should not have the 10kg bag he never actually said what should have happened.
    They just went around in circles of you need to pay and she saying she had no money.

    I was about to suggest American Express as being ideal for the purpose of wanting to pay but being unable to pay but it seems Ryanair now accept AmEx and they even accept Dinners Club.

    That's exactly what would happen, if they ever choose to crack down on it. You won't be allowed to board the aircraft with the bag as it violates the rules you agreed to when you bought your ticket, and you won't be allowed to leave the bag at the gate unattended as it violates the airport security policies. They'll probably insist that you remove the bag from airport property and then return to the gate afterwards, and the fact that the flight will be long gone by then isn't their problem, so you definitely won't be getting any refund. They might still let you check the bag and board if you give up the game at that point and pull out your wallet, but there's no guarantee (especially if you were abusive to the staff or the gate was already closed...).
