Dumped the filter in the 'Ube and replaced the ceramic medium with gravel, put in a filter that I'd cycled in a bucket and moved the betta back in there. You can see in the first pic the circle at the end of the tank where the filter used to go.

I'm loving it as it is now; much quieter, and will be easier to keep clean :D

Here's a couple of pics of my Fluval Edge marine tank (Though the inhabitants like hiding...)
Bumble bee snail and the lurking Yellowrose goby:
    IMG_20120330_220040.jpg
Yellow fish that I'm not 100% sure what he is... Thought maybe a Yellow Goby, but he's not quite goby looking... below him is the Yasha Goby (My favourite, but the most reclusive so far!) and the Turbo Snail near the bottom:
    IMG_20120401_141603.jpg
The yellow fish again, and the Yellowrose Goby peeking out from the middle of the live rock, and the Turbo Snail near the bottom left. You can see the little Starfish in the back too! :)

    [edit]
After some research, looks like he is a Yellow Clown Goby

Slightly re-arranged the tank last night, and added two new arrivals to it.
(Apologies for how it looks, dark till I turned the flash on, and Youtube hasn't figured out yet that not all videos are landscape format)

Re they usually not usually just blue LED's? I have them built into the hood on mine, but they must not be wired correctly as sometimes they decide not to work sometimes. You shouldnt even notice it on your electric bill

i was half thinking about getting one off ebay, just a single pale blue LED one for my tropical community tank as a spotlight on a feature in my tank at night so it's not totally blacked out.

then i was thinking of a UV one for the marine tank to make it all day-glo when the main lights are off. :D

Will that gravel be a bit harsh on the Sterbai?
It seems not. They still have their barbels anyway. Well, the 4 remaining fish, I lost two.

In other tank news one of my nerites has been growing a funny shell
    WP_000576.jpg

And I also seem to have an infestation of ramshorns from somewhere. Where, I have no idea, I only saw them for the first time today. They're very small, so I've been crushing them against the glass. My tetras love the snail meat.

Okay so I cycled my tank. A big thanks to the seahorse guys for all their help with this. Im confident to show some photos now because I had my levels double checked today and everything was perfect.

My clownfish. He moves far too fast for my camera to focus on him.

Think its only 1 watt so you wouldnt notice it. Seahorse sell them, nice addition I think! You can get them in red white and green also.

I bought plants about a month ago, but havent had any luck keeping them planted, f€ckin goldies keep pickin one or 2 up. The funny thing is, its never the same one! how do you keep yours down? or do you have any fish in it yet?

    goldfish are notorious for it.

all the plants stay down apart from one bunch which I have a nail tied to to weight it.
All my fish are small and can't uproot the plants

Added a flower pot today, the tiny bubbles streaming out of it as it settled looked cool so got a vid, doesn't really show it all that well though.

6 Red Honey Gouramis moved in today. After some settling period they got used to it and find the bubble stream and taller plants fascinating!
(the tetras seem to be getting very excitable in the mornings too, dancing in pairs)

These are my 2 tanks. I couldn't get a decent pic of the first one as there's a burned tube and the other one is almost towards the end of it's life. I'm waiting for some LED strips to see if they're any good for the plants before buying some new tubes. Sorry for the dark pic :(

    Agreed!

Is that sand on top of gravel in the 2nd tank?

  • Registered Users Posts: 678 ✭✭✭m4r10

Thanks guys. It's Argos sand over regular potting compost, really cheap substrate!
