So have been stung for 200 euro replacing the pcb, overpaid after seeing other websites which quoted prices, sic

Anyway plumber said i need to install a Fused spur switch so that will prevent the PCB going again

Does this seem right and how much would this job cost

switch would be about €6 prob 50 - 60 fitted plumber should have really fitted it while changing pcb for that price to be fair

The PCB will blow long before the 3 amp fuse will in a spur. Spur will more protect the motor than the PCB. Always good practice to install a switched fused spur anyhow.

Switched spur with 5amp fuse up to a 4 bar pump then it's 13amp

    sorry, what will that mean

It just means the size of the fuse you install will be determined by the size/power of the pump. Either way, it will not protect the pcb.

Absolute rubbish!! A plug connection is as sufficent as a spur aslong as its fused correctly.
The pcb going has very little to do with the ekectrical connection, you got shafted by your ' plumber' who has insurance to do electrical work on your pump yet couldnt put a proper electrical connection on it while he was there. I often het the old ' I wouldnt b covered by insurance' bull**** when someobe cant or wont do the job properly or just wants a quick in and out. Pcb 40e ish, 5 minute job... 'bmw plumber' . Hope you got a vat recipt.. nearly guess you didnt.

No it is most definitely not! A switched fused spur is a double pole spur and therefore breaks the live and neutral. Remember a broken neutral becomes live! A plug is not a switch and if the fuse blew it would only break the live. It is always best practice to install a switched fused spur with a fuse rated to suit the appliance that it is serving.

The fuse protection will work the same and the isolation achieved by removing the plug. However for fixed appliances le.g. pump you should use a fixed wiring solution i.e. a switched fused spur. Probably even cheaper than fitting a socket and plug.

btw, fuses are there to protect the cable and nothing else.

Simple.. go onto Stuart Turners web site, on the home page at the bottom there is a space to key in the serial number of your pump, that will identify the model, then download an installation manual, & read page 10, it covers the manufacturers instructions and electrical details.
Btw the pcb boards on pump versions that were genuinely imported through the official distributer in Ireland differ from the UK versions as they had the modification of dry run protection commissioned by Modern Plant, & were surge protected, thats not saying that they couldnt become damaged for any given reason.
