Haven't seen many of the first model 156's around.
96-02 bravos are a rarity now but there were still a good few around up til 2 years ago.
Glanza, S200, integras, rare sight now - maybe I'm not frequenting the right industrial estates at the right time :pac:

I haven't seen an Alfa 33 in a long time. They were far from being a big seller and are out of production nearly 20 years so it's not a surprise.

What is striking is how few Alfa 156s I see considering that the car is not that old and sold in good numbers.

I'm sure I had a Nissan primera Sri and it was 1990

Thought the SRi only came along after the Series II facelift around 1993ish. Everything before that was badged LX and SLX with a very rare eGT in Ireland anyway, think the UK had L (lower spec than any paddy spec, UK minicab spec), LS, SLX and eGT.

I see a Renault 5 and up to recently a Fiat UNO in our underground car park, both circa 1993/4. Skoda Favorits had a brief burst of popularity but have disappeared completely and the Felicia is almost gon with them. Ford Escorts are all but disappeared save for Mk 1,11 and 111 variants on the classic scene.

The Sri one I had was green it had bucket seats and a red badge on the boot lid
I'm not 100% on the year but it was the early model

Typical cars didn't have these features available, not to mention them being standard.

No, but the ones that did have might be around for a bit longer. And a lot of the mid-class japs actually had them as standard, while they came as extras. I remember my dad's Mitsubishi Galants came loaded by default. Issue with those was, that they rotted away.

Your 89 premium class Audi did not have some of options that most of the cars have now fitted as factory standard.

I can only think of steering wheel controls, which still isn't standard these days. Of course there's some safety features, but I'm not too sure, if I wanted those.

Back in 89 Audi itself was a comfort, so was BMW...

Sure. They still have disappeared though.

Was behind a light blue MK1 Mondeo this morning 95 reg. It was packed full of builder types. Don't know what surprised me more the sight of builders or the car :D

Or a 25? We had two 21s an '87 one and a '91 one. Last time I saw either was in France a few years ago.

I'll second the 156, rarely see one now. Early audi a4s are another you don't see too often anymore, even 1st generation focus' are getting thin on the ground.

I had one of them too
    A red turbo one .
It was a right off and we had to re shell it
Totally different body it had the engine lengthways instead of transverse like the standard car .
    Absolute rocketship .

    Renault Safranes - gone.
Had a Mondeo Mk1 as a stopgap runabout myself recently. Good riddance!

Toyota Camry. The best Toyota in terms of comfort. Had one in Australia before never let me down.

    Ford Orion

Saw one of these in Youghal a fortnight ago, first one I've seen in years. And an Escort hatch of the same era around a week before that, MK3/4?

I love seeing these cars around, rescued from barns and grandparent's driveways, survivors of the scrappage holocaust; hated the noughties when there was nothing interesting on our roads, just boring Japanese and European sh1tbox clones, nearly new because next door bought a new one last year. Sure we'll throw the perfectly good car we have away, it's /old/.

Been running a '96 Volvo 850 R estate myself for around 3 months, loving every minute of it; in incredible condition for a 16 year old car, and genuinely as much fun as the '00 740i it replaced. I just feel sorry for the beamer, alone and unloved in my driveway. The motor tax regime in this country has a lot to answer for.

EDIT: There's a Safrane in my mother's estate, daily driver. I think there's a Laguna somewhere around there too. You never see Xantias around anymore though, wonderful pointy things they were.

One Safrane was parked next to me not so long ago in Newbridge(Tesco car park). Huge car, pictures don't do justice. Next time i spot it i take a picture, if the owner permits.

    Plenty Xantias in spain still.

Have seen grown men almost reduced tears reminiscing on time spent in escorts/orions with blocked spraybars etc. In fairness the Mondeo mk1 was supposed to be a quantum leap from them, and even then I'd prefer a jap from the same era. Personal preference I suppose.

Nissan Sunny saloons are disappearing, liftbacks are extinct I think.
I've owned a good few cars on this extinction list - I don't think that's a good thing!

Rust is taking its toll on many 90s models now - while they were much better protected than older models with galvanizing, this only delays things and anti perforation warranties are long expired in most cases. Also, some manufacturers lagged behind others with many 1990s Ford Fiestas, Kas and Escorts suffering serious rust at only 7 or 8 years old.

In someways I am not that sorry to see the back of 1980s and 1990s cars as they are generally very unsafe by modern standards and much safer 00s cars are now approaching banger money to buy.

Until statutory offset testing and EuroNCAP, started, safety didn't really sell and was not a major priority for manufacturers. Had cars from the early to mid 90s been as safe as mid 00s cars, thousands of people across Europe would now be alive instead of dead. Fatalities in most countries have dropped dramatically since 2000 and safer cars are surely a big factor in this.

    Disappearing cars.... Saddening :(

    Fiat Bravo/a/Marea
    D8 Peugeot 406
    Citroen Xantia
    Citroen Xsara
    VW Golf mk3
    Opel Vectra B
    Opel Astra (1998 - 2004)
    Nissan Almera (1995 - 2000)

When was the last time any of these were seen on the road:
    Citroen AX/ZX/XM
    Peugeot 205/309/405/605/806
    Fiat Tempra/Croma mk1
    Ford Scorpio/Fusion/Escort
    Rover Tomcat
    Renault 5
    BMW E34/E32
    Opel Omega/ Astra (1991-1998)
    Volvo 440
    VW Passat B4/ Polo Fox

Apart from 1 or 2 not that old... To me anyway. The cars I grew up with are disappearing at an alarming rate! :(

This is the key thing for me, with a couple of small kids to ferry about. The 15 year old car I had was mechanically fine and running well. It was also very unsafe by today's standards.

They're an economic writeoff every 36k miles when the timing belt is due.

The cars I had in the last 4 to 5 years are very thin on the ground now, 90s prelude, Celica, w124, e34 and if course 90s rovers. Some of the cars mentioned I haven't seen in 5 to 10 years. A local garage has a 323f that they got for next to nothing in the late 90s.
