The interpretations of Princip's actions seem to be pretty controversial in the former yugoslav regions at the moment, some interesting articles on the BBC about it.

Germany invades Belgium 100 years ago today. On 2nd August Germany had requested that Belgium give the German army the right of free passage through the country to attack France. Belgium refused this request on the 3rd. In response to the invasion, Britain declares war on Germany at 11pm, due to the violation of Belgian neutrality.

The single bloodiest day of WW1 occurs 100 years ago today. In a series of battles known as the the 'Battle of the Frontiers', the French army casualties number 27,000 killed. Flandersnews.be also states that as many as 14,000 German soldiers may have been killed as well. If true, the death rate for this day alone may have been double that of 1st July 1916 (1st day of the Battle of the Somme).
