Good areas for a student: All of Stranmillis, Eglantine, Chlorine Gardens, Sandymount, Fitzwilliam Street, Camden Street, Claremont Street, all streets off the Lisburn Road, amongst many many others.

Avoid the holylands if you really don't want a bit of noise now and again, but I have been reading gross overexaggerations on this thread about the holylands. They're not that crazy and cars don't get smashed up very often.

Also, you have nothing to worry about being from the south or having a southern car etc, nobody really notices/cares. If there is a union jack flag, this is also nothing to worry about, it doesn't mean anyone is going to get stabbed or jumped if theyre a catholic or have a southern accent etc. Just forget they're there and you won't notice any difference whatsoever.

Belfast is not still in the 1970s and most places you choose to live (in South Belfast anyway ) are absolutely fine and safe etc etc. Belfast is apparently the safest city in the UK so there ya go.

Anyway, good luck and enjoy living here, you'll have lots of craic and a good time i'm sure.

I used to knock about there twenty years ago as a student. It was fine then - a bohemian area.

Now? An absolute **** hole, filled with the worst kind of bitter republican, backward muck savages, who behave like anti-social knobheads under the guise of being students. The police are regular visitors to Holylands to deal with these cretins.

Stranmillis is lovely as is the Lisburn Road and streets nearby. You'll have a good standard of living in Belfast if you live there.

Choose carefully and you'll be absolutely fine.
