So I've never been a girl to paint my nails. Whenever I did it was always messy and I usually end up smudging it. However I took great inspiration from this thread and thus yesterday went out and bought nail polish for the first time in I'd say 8 years! I bought Essence - Mellow Yellow and BarryM's black nail effect.

Today with much trepidation I decided that I would finally try and paint my nails properly. And I'm happy to report that they came out really well. I don't have a camera and my phone's camera is crap so I can't post up any pics but I'm really happy with them. I'll try and get hold of a camera sometime and post up my efforts.

Just want to say thanks for the inspiration and I'll be following this thread religiously from now on!

Today I am wearing Essie - Chinchilly. It's a much softer grey than my picture shows. Probably more suited for autumn than summer!

    5869733607_df11b6bc36_m.jpg

I don't have any greyish colours in my collection but that essie colour is beautiful, I have a much lighter skin tone though and the polish really compliments your skin tone.. Oh I might have to purchase it and try it out anyway

P.S. Your nails look fab! I'm so jealous of how pretty shaped and healthy looking all you ladies nails look!! What's your secrets haha! :D

I put Rimmel's 'Misty Jade' on me today and it went on horribly.

I usually put thin layers of polish on, and usually never more than two coats. I wait until each coat is fully dry before applying another coat.

Anyway, Misty Jade, on part of my nail it was thick and the other thin, like there was thick 'lines' of it on my nail  I'm not sure if I am explaining this right, I'm probably not, apologies. :o

Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I really like the colour but I can't use the polish as it is as it won't go on properly at all.

In other nail polish news, I bought Butter London Snog, from hqhair.com :D

Can't wait for it to arrive :D

I just spent half an hour trying to take off elf nail polish:eek: Last time I wore an elf polish, I thought it was because I had no base coat on. So this time I used Sally Hansen Nail Strenghtener as a base and it was still really hard to get off. Are all elf polishes like this?? Or has my nail polish remover gone off?? Its a tesco one and a few years old. (This thread inspired me to start painting my nails again!)

Sugarbomb, haven't used ELF but could be the remover, i always use the boot own one with the large make up pads, find all the others leave me scrubbing my polish off :(

I find that colour a complete bitch! I have it on my nails back in the beginning of the thread and it took me 3 coats to get it looking nice. I never do 3 coats, ever! All I can say is take your time, paint it on really smooth and don't give up 'cause it actually is a gorgeous colour and it's worth it!

Was it the navy? I have a few from ELF, some are no problem - others definitely stain. They're a bit hit and miss for me.

I didn't find misty jade too bad as at least Rimmel have a decent brush but it does take 2-3 coats. I used a good base coat then painted two not too thick coats of polish. Mine had worn a bit yesterday so I topped it up with another coat of polish and more top coat and it looks great today. I think its one of those colours that looks better with 3 coats. On saying that I rarely if ever would just apply 1 coat of a polish its never enough for me

No it was champagne. I had the same problem with Coral. I haven't tried the Mango yet. Don't think I'll buy anymore elf now. Bought a couple of Barry M from www.thepeaskneees.co.uk. Can't wait for them to arrive!!

Mango is fine for me, staining-wise. I think Coral and Champagne are part of their old formula range, so that might explain it. I've stopped buying polishes there, although Teal keeps catching my eye. I want to try the Barry M ice cream colours, but my OH may murder me if he sees yet another nail polish bottle. :D

ordered some opi bits & bobs off www.millies.ie I've used them a few times for both opi & dermalogica in the past, when my order arrived one of the bottles had smashed in transit & there was top coat all over everything  I know millies get recommended regularly enough on boards (I've probably recommended them myself) but I just wanted to say OMG their customer service is second to none, so apologetic & charming & sorted the whole thing out straight away.... When everyone (me included) is quick enough to give out about crap customer service I thought I should be just as quick to commend a shop on their excellent customer service ;)
