I put bry l cream in my hair and have had dandruff for yonks. But its not just little flakes that are visible in my hair. There's also these 3-dimensional round, white things i like to describe as pearl-y bits, not nits eggs - never had itchy scalp. What exactly are these?

and what remedy for dandruff has worked for you?

The only time I can remember having that issue was when using brylcreem. Maybe you should try something new and see if that fixes the problem.

Stop using brylcream, and try use a wax instead.
To get rid of dandruff, use head and shoulders

I remember been told by a barber that using oil based waxs/gels is very bad for the scalp as its damn near impossible to get it washed out of your hair properly with ordinary shampoo.

Try a water based gel/moulding wax instead OP.

    As above change to wax..

In the mean time, use oilatum antidandruff shampoo (small white bottle) or T-gel. Both work well. You do not need to use these everyday but it helps if you do every 3 or 4 days to keep it at bay.

I'm feeling useful and informative this evening..

    So:

If there is a build up of "product" (gel, hairspray) in your hair -

Old as the hills trick - get a bath cube (ancient granny type things)
Wet your hair in the shower and mush/break up one of these and wash your hair with it. It removes all the crap stuck to your hair. One decent proper wash with that then wash with normal shampoo and rinse.

Dandruff - an awful lot of people don't actually have dandruff, they just have dry skin on their scalp.

They think they have dandruff and use anti-dandruff shampoo which just irritates the scalp more!

Try using baby shampoo (cheap as chips too) for a few weeks and see if you notice any difference.

If you still have white flakes after about two weeks, then you probably have dandruff and need an anti-dandruff treatment.

Oh and while I'm here - some, I repeat some men don't wash their hair enough and unclean hair smells bad!

    :)
