Hi, can anyone recommend a shop in Dublin that could convert a VHS tape to Blu-ray?

Does it need to be Blu-ray?

No, but Blu-ray would be ideal.

DVD would make more sense and be cheaper.

Why? 99.9% of Blu-ray players playback DVD and there's a lot more places offering the service.

I found, for the prices we were quoted a few years back it was cheaper to buy the equipment and do it myself.

Think I paid 20quid for the USB device.

Fair enough, thanks. Can you suggest a place? Can you tell me what USB device you're talking about?

    Why?

DVD will be universally playable on all Bluray players as well as DVD players, Bluray will only work on Bluray players. VHS quality is about 335?576 pixels, Bluray is 3840?2160 so the capacity and functionality is completely wasted by transferring a poor quality recording to a high where no inmprovement will be made. Places who will transfer to Bluray will charge more than to DVD.

LIDL sell transfer kits from time to time for about €20, they require a VHS player to connect to in order to transfer to PC.

I cant recommend any specific places, as I said, I ended up doing it myself. The handful of places I did call were looking upwards of 30quid per video.

The usb device is just a capture card, I actually picked it up in Lidl, but there's loads of identical ones on eBay for a tenner or so.

You literally just connect it straight into the scart of the VCR, hit record on the pc software and play on the video. You can save it as a .avi or MP4 or whatever and burn it to a disc if you need to. Not difficult at all. Plenty of easy to follow tutorials on YouTube.

I'd suggest giving it a go.

Nice, thanks :) Now I just need to find a VCR.
