Here's the full announcement. Please note that
the Symposium will discuss the *technical* aspects of the proposed legislation only. D. -- Donal Cunningham, President The System Administrator's Guild of Ireland donal@sage-ie.org (087) 815 4147 ========================================= As a service to the Internet community in Ireland, The System Administrators' Guild of Ireland is holding a Symposium on the technical aspects of the proposed Traffic Data Retention legislation on Tuesday, March 11th, at 7 p.m. Courtesy of our colleagues in the TCD Internet Society, the venue is the Walton lecture theatre in the Arts Building, Trinity College Dublin. The proposed legislation mandates the retention of details of telephone and fax calls made, emails sent and web sites visited by Internet users in Ireland, for a period of time not yet determined, but expected to be between six months and three years. The Symposium aims to explore the technical issues behind Traffic Data Retention with a mostly non-technical audience. Topics which will be covered include: - Internet basics - Internet traffic volumes - Current network technology - Current storage technology - Costs incurred Seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The theatre holds 200 people. If there is sufficient interest, a second symposium may be held at a later date. Directions and contact details are available on our website, http://www.sage-ie.org/ |
