I know it wasn't punishment as such, but do yee remember the vile tasting worm doses that kids were made take .In my case it was a few times a year, and most times I wouldn't even have worms. It tasted absolutely rotten. yuck:mad: The things parents do. In my eyes it was punishment.

Oh yeah, God that stuff was disgusting.

I can still taste it even thinking about it.

Got the wooden spoon, the belt, the mouth washed out with soap to name a few but the worst punishment of all was not being warned about having kids of my own, yep karma's come and kicked me right up the ar** , whats that saying " there's no greater satisfaction than watching your kids raise kids of their own " ........ mind you I've not nor will ever dish out the kinda punishment I received.

Well if she is giving you a few smacks then it is hypocritical. A school principle doesn't usually slap a school pupil. However you get expelled an over reaction just to show no favouritism as your her child. A normal school pupil might not get expelled and certainly wouldn't be smacked. A normal school pupil doesn't have his mother contacted everytime he does something wrong, she sounds very inconsiderate towards you. They both misused their authority to cause you harm.

Honestly I hate them with a passion, and all bridges are truly burned at this stage

Most of the punishments in my day were physical. No such thing as a grounding. I think the worst though came when me and my mates found the keys hidden under a creamery lorry, and we got in and tried to start it up. We were busted by a nearby business owner and marched home to mom and dad, with our heads hung in shame. My Dad killed me. He hit me as hard as he could with a belt across my legs, back, and bum. I seriously couldn't sit down for ages, and I had to sleep literly on my stomach. I don't resent him, he was right as it was quiet serious what we did even if we didn't intend going off on a joy ride. Bottom line I learned my lesson.

I didn't use to wake up myself so one day my mother poured a bucket of cold water on me while I was asleep. I wasn't allowed to leave my bed still 9 that day, didn't go to school neither and I was cold. Lucky it was summer

I ''broke'' a window in boarding school. Mam broke a slipper of my head. It was my fathers, it had a hard sole so the white cotton/fluff or whatever it was flying in the air. I said it was snowing. I got the brush head in the face for the joke. Ah well. She was too uptight. Funny thing is, it wasn't me who did it. It's amazing that sometimes your parents believe people over you, in my case it was pretty much all the time.

my parents got so angry with me after i dropped out of college that they through me out of the house. they then got a barring order against me from entering the house again. i didn't speak to them for 6 months after. when i started speaking to them again things were never the same and i don't think they ever will be the same again.

Mine tried to use that, but I'd been living away already so it didn't really work. Also I'd dropped out to skip the country!

Worst punishment had to be having to watch the Antiques Roadshow... The horror...

My mum smacked me across the face when I was about ten, can't even remember what it was for. But its stayed with me to this day and I still remember how horrible it was. What's your punishment horror story from childhood?

I used to get 7 colors of sh1t slapped out of me for the smallest of crimes... it was the 80's and not really frowned upon yet! Did me no harm :pac:

Nah the worst punishment by far was a grounding.. Do what you want but don't clip my wings

Ha Ha, so right you are my friend. I wonder how todays generation of kids will be scarred for life , for being grounded, and have all their toys/accessories taken away.

What I can't understand about grounding is what happens if the groundee decides "F*ck that sh%t, I'm off out anyway?" I mean if your worst punishment is not being allowed out what happens when this is ignored?

If i grounded my daughter and she kept disobeying me then I'd slowly but surely reduce her life to absolute misery. There would be no tv, no games, no money, bare essentials for her room. I'd literally strip her room bare and lock every single nice thing away. She would have nothing in her life that gave her pleasure.
I would escort her to school, to her classroom if need be and collect her.

Of course this is all extreme "she's going off the rails and about to ruin her life" type stuff.
But essentially kids rely on us for pretty much every material thing they have and we can reduce their lives to empty shells if need be.
Naturally all good behaviour would then result in items being returned, priveledges etc.

    I am a scary mammy! :o

Yes, I'm afraid you are:D lol. Prison would be more fun:cool:. In my day (80's and 90's), we had nothing in our room to take away, only the blanket.:pac:, so I suppose all our parents could do was to smack us;)

First I was chucked out of the womb, then a year later I was weaned.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,876 ✭✭✭pirelli

    :D

We were like the Blanket men, their would be **** on the wall of the room if we were locked in, then we would join the Ira and become henchmen. Parents had to resort to extreme corporal punishment in those days. Incarceration of your siblings was frowned upon. Didn't much like kidnappings either but batter them black and blue by all means but don't them into a corner.

I don't know if this has come up already but I found as a parent emotional blackmail worked the best.

The " I love you and will always love you, but I don't like you very much at the moment you have let me down and hurt me so much " speech

Now the important thing is not to be cross with the child and to carry on as normal.

What happens next depends on the child involved some children will cave in immediately and start sobbing, trow their arms around you and say I am sorry I love you so much and I wll never let you down againg!!...Some hard cases will last a few hours before they cave in and you get the sobbing and I love you speech.

You should never screw with your kids emotions. Never tell them you don't like them, no matter how temporarily it may be. Give them a quick smack or two and carry on as normal. **** this cold shoulder ****. And they say that smacking is detrimental to a kids development.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,325 ✭✭✭✭mariaalice

I do not believe in smacking children, My children are grown up now, I never smacked them nor was I ever smacked as a child.

I do believe telling a child that you love them, but your are not happy with how they have behaved works ( along with lots of praise when warranted )

As flaked as we were, we were sure happy, alot happier than kids seem today. Out playing until 11pm or even later in the Summer time. U dont see that these days. We'd be out playing some sport or another, and eventually we'd start fighting with each other, the father wold come out and flake us in the door, but we'd be back out playing again within the half hour. Good times I must say:D. All kids today just stare at the tv on the xbox. If you asked them what a board game was, they wouldn't even know:eek:. Where we spent our childhoods laughing, playing sports and cycling around the local countryside, Kids today spend all their time sulking:o. Must be the groundings :p

Massive clatter across the mush off my mam when I was about 16 (in fairness she finally found the hickey I had been hiding with scarves for that whole week doh!) And always remember her running up the stairs after me with the tea towel, she caught me on the back of the legs once (again that was me throwing an un-opened pint of milk up in the air and trying to clap before catching it again... Milk went splat (Milk and carpets do not mix well!)

The worst punishment I got was baking soda and oatmeal being rubbed into my bottom after a spanking. It was awful. You had to stand against the wall with your hands above your head until it dried. It started to sting and sting! Another punishment i didn't like but wasn't as bad was having my jeans being taken away and being forced to wear a stupid floral dress during the summer holidays

Haven't heard of that one before. Surely the bread soda and oatmeal would just drop off when you are standing up?

It was combined with water into a paste. We had to lie on the scroll of the sofa with our pants down after spanking and Mom would mix the paste. The pain from the spanking would go down a bit and then the paste would feel quite soothing at first. Then we had to stand up and go against the wall with our hands on our heads. After a couple of minutes when the paste was drying it wout itch and then sting and sting until the pain was worse than before.
That was the only time we were allowed on the sofa. We had to sit on high backed chairs and we would be spanked if we slouched or did not stand up whenever our Mom or dad entered the room.

your parents should be jailed for that.to dish out punishment is one thing but to think about it and go into so much detail to dish it out, shows a sadistic (dare I say )pleasure.not right not right at all.
