Kale?!?

I bought a few kale plants from garden centre in March, planted them out and they grew well (aside from slugs and weird looking striped caterpiller type things eating them, anyone know what they are?!)

I'm just wondering does anyone know do they keep growing, when will they die, people say they're a winter crop. I'm confused!!

it tastes like cabbage and cooks like cabbage and looks like cabbage

they should start hearting up around now
depending on the variety

That's great, nice blog.

Ya, mine looks exact same as yours, bit darker though.

What I'm wondering though, mine have pretty much been growing great since April, will they still be growing through winter or do I need to do anything to them?!

you could probably start eating them now
depends on the weather they might keep going til christmas

or sow some more seeds within the next few weeks which could keep you going til march or april

I did not get time to harvest some curly kale I had sown last summer before the snow came. It survived all winter and was able to use it this spring/early summer

That's mad!

Kale is such an amazing veg, it's so foolproof to grow, packed with super vitamins and minerals. I didn't put any organic fertilizer or food apart from the odd watering with epsom salts and my kale is great!

I'm delighted that it will keep growing 'til Spring.

I only have Tuscan Kale growing, maybe I should try the curly kale!

I'd sprinkle Aromat on them its a great seasoning to use for the kale chips, or try them on regular chips.

I sh*t you not, I just made a huge batch!
I love kale chips, I used to buy four or five bags in Dunnes until I copped on and grew my own.

I love them, I just used olive oil, rock salt, and a little of my vegan cheese.

I have never ever ever made a batch and saved some for later!

Only downside is having to floss your teeth after!

I use my tuscan kale for appetisers for dinner parties and the like. I present them like this and everyone thinks it's the shizz!!!!
