    Well the counts are underway.

FG & Labour were at each others throats.

Eamonn Gilmore has not hidden his ambition to be Taoiseach and FG have sounded out the Rainbow options already in an attempt to exclude them.

FF & Labour already have done business at arms lenght via the Social Partnership and Croke Park Agreement.

So with the counts underway - could it happen ???

Developers and unions running the country, again?

    dear god no

No. I want a Labour Taoiseach as much as anyone but FF are too toxic for anyone and I have a feeling Michael Martin would never go into coaliton as a junior partner.

The next Government is going to have a difficult enough job without making itself instantly hated by including FF in its numbers.

It would take some neck for gilmore to go in with FF. Especially after all the anti-FF talk over the last 2 years. Anyone who goes in with FF would show just how power hungry they are.

No and he better have more sense than Dick Spring who had similair ambitions in 1992.

If FG and Labour go form a coalition then that's what the people will get, developers and unions.

It would take some neck for Fine Gael to go into government with Labour.

    Fine Gael are Tories.

So if Gilmore has the courage of his convictions and ambition to be the first Labour Taoiseach .

    Well then. It is possible.

And they have done it before.

They wouldn't have the numbers anyway. RTE's first prediction had Labour on 43 and FF 20. So they would need at least 20 more.

Always the bridesmaid -never the bride.

Surely Gilmore believes he and Labour can be top banana .

And the count is on .

What if Fine Gael do a minority government - they will not need Labour.

FF coalitions have been disastrous for Labour , PD's and Greens in following elections.

FG coalitions haven't been as bad for junior parties and in the same way that a candidates biggest enemy is their running mate, FG and Labour have been trying to distinguish themselves to attract floating votes. When the dust settles they'll do business with each other.

The differences in policies on many issues are about horse trading on the exact % of cuts and VAT rates, not the nature of them.

Remember politics is the art of the possible.

    No.

FF happy to move to the opposition and let FG and Labour do their share of taking the pain or burden sharing as they will start to fall in the polls over time.

Just watched RTE's round up of the constituencies.

With the tally's is even the coallition with FG beyond Labours grasp.

The sums would not add up to create a gov without FG

Will FG want to do business with Labour ??

Would Enda Kenny get on with Eamonn Gilmore ??

Why on earth would you think that ?

    A Labour/FG coalition is unbackable with Paddy Power - 1 to 33.

I reckon 110 seats should be good enough for a government ;)

    Yes.

It will happen as soon as this fellow completes his flight training.

I reckon the policies of FG & Labour are incompatable.

FG in on their own - no real probs - but my own problem is that Labour will stand in the way of necessary changes.

We will have the tail wagging the dog.

With a coallition like this the ony place decisions are not made is openly on the floor of the Dail.

FF/Lab won't have the numbers AFAIK.

The developers rule the country already on the expense of the ordinary people already, so where is the change when FG rule the country on it's own?

That is not what John Bruton - Former FG Taoiseach said in January 2011. He said Civil Servants run the country
Former taoiseach John Bruton claimed today that the Republic is run by civil servants who use TDs and senators to administer their rule.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2011/0106/breaking44.html

So what are FG going to do about it !!!!

I didn't quote or refer to John Bruton at all. That was my personal opinion ;)

Its a genuine question - if that is the view of a senior Fine Gael member what are they going to do about it.

It sets a benchmark against which I would judge them and they should judge themselves especially before entering coallition.

    Will they do that ?

Last I heard 30,000 positions were to go. A lot of needless quangos too.

That not a start? Or should they be lined up agin' a wall and shot maybe?

    We feel your frustration.

Maybe Fine Gael should support a Fianna Fáil minority government? Though they could be pushed to fill a cabinet. Maybe Healy-Rae?
