A female Ortolan Bunting on Rockabill today - we suspect it's the first record of this species in Dublin!

That's a bit special - and then to get such a great photo too.:):)

A spotted flycatcher I would say. They do take moths from time to time...

    Great shots splish!
Where are you most likely to see the Green tiger beetles?
I suppose what I mean is what habitat type rather than a specific place.

The area where I took the pics is along a track in an area of dry heath.

They're almost too exotic looking to be an indigenous, native species.

    Amazing shots there Michael.
Can I ask what macro lens you used for those shots?

They do, and it had a bit of a struggle with the size of this one, but it got it down in the end.

I use the Canon 100mm f2.8 USM lens normally coupled with the Canon MR-14EX Ringflash and most of thetime on Canon 7D.

They like sandy places(says heaths and dunes in my guide book),
there is a old sandy quarry near me and its crawling with them now although little sign of them in areas outside quarry, Fly a lot and very active only see them May to July.
Very aggressive not called tiger for nothing , tried to get one to pose for photo
bit the finger off me and legged it.

There's an old sand and gravel quarry not far from me here, so might pop in and see if there's any sign of them there.
    Thanks Cork boy.

I bought the Tamron 90mm. macro lens (Nikon fit) myself and have been somewhat disappointed with the results. In hindsight I probably should have invested a little more in the Nikkor 105mm. I'm sure the Ring flash is a must have piece of kit for those serious about macro photography.
I look forward to seeing more of your stunning shots.
    Thanks Michael.
