Garage Door

    Hi all,

    Currently building my garage and was wonder about doors as we are going to pour the floor and need to know what way to end it (i.e leave trench for roller door or pour to wall for frame for timber door).

    Any recommendations between (app 2.3m x 2.1m):
    Roller door
    or
    Timber Doors

    Any info on:
    -U-values
    -Moisture/noise/breeze resitance
    -COST (most importantly):D

    would be greatly appritiated

    Hi Mrebel, welcome to boards.

    Roller Shutters by nature are noisey on Windy Days. They also provide little or no insulation Value, so you will find your Garage quite cold. Any tools within the Garage will also rust quickly.
    Solid Timber Doors will provide better insulation, but then you have the problem that they have to open in or out. Unless you have room for a sliding Door.

    I've just built a large Garage with Cavity Walls and I've fitted an Electric 4 Panel Insulated Roller Door. The Door is 9ft wide by 7 ft high.
    I have to say I'm really happy with it. Even in this cold spell of weather it's still pleasant inside the Garage, and I have no Heating of any kind in there.

    None of the above - as Sky6 says, an insulated sectional door is the best.

    I'm a bit of a petrol head, and have 5 of the doors, ranging from std white, to coloured with-glazing, in widths from 2.4m to 5.0m

    I wouldn't fit anything else - even in this atrocious wind & rain, they have remained airtight. No noise, no rattling.

    I totally agree with you no noise or wind getting into the Garage. I wouldn't fit anything else either.
