conversion of crew cab to commercial

Was pricing a Mitsubishi L200 club cab in northern ireland the other day.
This is a 2-door with two small seats in the back. These seats can be removed and the vehicle registered in the republic as a commercial for 50 euros vrt.
The dealer tells me he will remove the back seats, weld the brackets so that seats cannot be put back, (seemingly the customs man insists on this), and black-out the rear windows, all for the tidy sum of 600 pounds sterling. Surely this is a rip-off? Can anyone recommend a company that can do this job for a fair price?

Ok, it's not a very difficult task.

Take out the back seats, and take off the seat belts etc. and pay someone €20 to weld over the few spots. Get a piece of card board and make a template for the two back windows. Cut out a bit of metal using this. Stick it on. Pull the door card off and disconnect the electric windows and bobs your uncle. (Obviously this is a shortened down , but it is very easy done)

600 pounds is alot. I think it was somewhere in the region of a 1000 yo yo's to commercialise a RR sport, but that was including making and fitting a box to cover where the seats were to make it look proffessional. I'm sure this is the least of your worries.

Check first that it's €50 VRT rather than 13.3% of the OMSP. I've just been quoted €457 for VRT on my '96 commercial Hilux, and they can't tell me it doesn't qualify for €50 VRT while the likes of a Berlingo does.

Unfortunately the cargo bay of the Hilux was 3cm too short for me to be able to put in a bulkhead and clear it as a crewcab (5 seats, commercial tax, 13.3% VRT instead of 36%).
