Neigbours new puppy barking incessantly

    Neighbours bought a Puppy, which is fine as far as I'm concerned. Love dogs, especially my own. But they go out during the day, and leave the puppy on it's own in the back garden with food, water, and nothing else. It's only about 10 weeks old, and it won't STFU. It barks and yelps for a full 9 hours until they come home.

    Neighbours are a bit young, and I don't know if they know how to train/look after a dog correctly, especially a puppy. Is there anything I can do for the poor dog to entertain it food or otherwise, bearing in mind there's a wall between their garden and mine?*

    *Yes, I'm aware some people will say it's not my dog, and not my place to do anything with it, but this is getting beyond a joke listening to the puppy barking 9 hours a day, 5 days a week.

    First thing you should do is inform the neighbours that the pup is barking constantly. Like you said, the pup barks when they are out, so they wont know its barking unless someone informs them:)

    They really shouldnt have bought a dog if they can't work it around their schedule. Any chance you could have it in your garden for a bit? Let him play with your dog maybe? It's fairly clear he's just bored and wants some attention. This could restore his and your sanity.

    I'd be barking all day too if I was a 10 week old puppy left alone all day. :(

    When I got my first puppy, to keep her company at night we gave her a teddy bear and that helped, otherwise she'd cry all night. Maybe you could suggest something to them like that, not that it would just cure the problem.

    Or if you have time and wanted to, maybe you could offer to pop in to see the dog once a day and give it a bit of company. I know you might be busy or they might refuse, but you could say you just love dogs. A bit of a break in the day might help it, and some play time might tire it out and make it sleep.

    Thanks guys, it seems he does want company alright, if I pop upstairs so he can see me, and call his name, he wags his tail, and relaxes for 15 minutes or so. Great ideas!

    If you have any old kongs and stuff around, drop them in, just say your dog is finished with them, would they like them, as it will help keep the puppy occupied. Give them the beneft of the doubt maybe they don't know how to do this properly.
    Be neighbourly and friendly it normally works well for everyone.

    I think that all the advice that you have been given is really good. And I salute you for being concerned about the dog, but also being anxious to help your neighbours out!:D If it was me, I would probably offer to go in to the garden once a day or so, and to bring your dog, so that the pup can have some nice playtime and also be socialised.
