signs of immediate linux support for day of defeat CS:GO and l4d2 as well as half life 2

Looks like the fixed the repo issues with the 64bit package, as it's working for me now

I'll hopefully get a chance to play some of the games I bought during the steam linux sale :D

    Edit:
Played around for a short while this evening and gave puddle a go. Fun game but controls make is seem like it was really designed to be used on a phone. Am I right in thinking it's from the same makers as world of goo?

Overall the new steam package seems smoother, also like that you can now run a game using primusrun (which works better than optirun) directly from steam. Makes it alot less awkward to start playing a game

Next thing I might try is to install it on my media center box and see if I can get a few games that support controllers going on it to play on my TV. I've only got average graphics on it but it should be able to play some games.

I have a general source engine question - I bought HL2 way back when. I never actually finished it so when the full thing gets released on linux I'm going to fire ahead and play it through. My machine is getting old enough now, but a perfectly respectable spec for a linux desktop:

Q6600 (quad core, 2.4GHz but will easily clock to 2.8)
    4G RAM
    GeForce 9800GT

So the source engine today is not the same as the source engine of whenever HL2 was released. Will it still play at any reasonable frame rate on my box?

I just finished it on a Windows box with similar spec - Q6400, 2Gb RAM and 9800GT - and it played fine.

Nice one. Thanks for that 9800GT btw. :D

Forgot I gave that to you - seems it's a 9500GT I have in this rig and it still played fine. Gonna get me a 1Gb card and an extra 2gb of ram for this one.

Herp Derp. Bought a new wireless adaptor from the same manufacturer as my last one (which worked out of the box) and low and behold it does not work on Mint 14.

    finally left for dead news

There's a new blog post on the Left 4 Dead site where they mention Linux:
We are hard at work on the Linux release. While we don’t have a solid ETA yet, we are internally testing on Linux, MAC, and PC. Right now, it is looking pretty good. We will have more news as we get closer to release.

This weeks Humble weakly budles feature tripwire. The killing Floor and Red Orchestra 1 and 2 ( Ro 2 is not on linux, the other 2 games are)

On the stats - they may be rounding down (it is the default in most programming languages). So 0.1 may in fact be 0.199. On average that would make 0.15. That may affect things quite a bit when you have a large number of OS flavours being considered.

Good point there is also a lot of Lunux flavours at 0.00 precent. On the other hand. This is from tripwires Facebook page
"Some good news for our Linux (and soon to be Mac)
players of Red Orchestra: Ostfront. You can now
download and play the total conversion mods Darkest
Hour and Mare Nostrum from the Steam store."

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,620 ✭✭✭Grudaire

Yeah the stats are a little undetailed to fully understand the meaning.

The total of all percentages currently adds up to 99.97% so there's definitely rounding differences showing through.

Yea we are losing % on some of the smaller linuxs however, we may be making on flavours like ubuntu and windows may also be losing as well as mac os
If they released something like half life 3 a week or 2 on Linux before windows, a lot of card core half life fans would jump ship quickly I'd say
