'Eclipsed' by Patricia Burke Brogan,

We will be putting on a staged reading of 'Eclipsed' in Druid LaneTheatre, Galway. This play is set in one of the Magdalne Laundries and deals with the women who are incarcerated there and the nuns who rule over them. This is a moving, sad and funny portrayal of life in one of these institutions. This reading coincides with International Womens day Friday 8th March as we endeavour to keep the flame lit for all those women and children who were oppressed under this cruel and harsh system. Ticket proceeds go to COPE GALWAY.
Tickets available http://entertainment.ticketsolve.com...3491630/events
and from Charlie Byrnes Bookshop, Middle Street, Galway. Tickest 10 euro.

To raise money for volunteer work I'm doing in South Africa this summer, I'm selling tickets for a gig in the Laughter Lounge on the 21st of March. Tickets are €20 and include seeing four comedians (including the wonderful Keith Farnan), a free cocktail if you arrive before 19:30 and a late night bar and dj afterwards.

Here's the Facebook event. You can contact me through that or pm me if interested.

Dancing at Lughnasa
by Glencullen Musical and Dramatic Society

Lughnasa is coming early this year! Celebrated this April(9 to 13) at Easter time in the Mill Theatre in Dundrum. Brought to you by Glencullen Musical and Dramatic Society (GMDS).

Dancing at Lughnasa is a 1990 play by Brian Friel. Set in Glenties, Donegal in 1936, the play is loosely based on a true story involving Friel’s own aunts. The narrator remembers a last magical summer in his aunts' cottage when he was seven years old. The house is filled with bustle and work and music and the vibrant sisters of the family. Friel paints a loving portrait of life in Ireland of the 30s.

The play takes place around the Celtic harvest festival of Lughnasadh. Love and happiness seem possible for the five Mundy sisters as they welcome home their frail elder brother who has returned from a life as a missionary in Africa. The family is together this summer however times are hard, economic and social pressures stress the family despite the strength of character of the sisters and the future is uncertain.

Bernard Doyle who directed The Field with GMDS last March is directing this play. Many years ago 'Dancing' was the first play Bernard directed. The experienced members of GMDS know the play very well. Different versions of the play have been seen over the years. The whole team is very excited to be creating an authentic, funny at times, yet hard, sad and emotional play.

We have an excellent production again and we want to call on everyone to come and see the play and also pass the message on to as wide an audience as possible. This is an especially good opportunity for the Leaving Cert students studying the play to see it in real life. We have just a weeks performance for this show and the energy between a good audience and cast on stage is magic!

Thanks to all who turned out for readings and auditions for the plays in January. Standards were very high and we have the good fortune that our director had some difficult decisions to make! Congratulations to our now hard-working cast for this production who are: Kate Mundy by Ruth Fitzsimon, Maggie Mundy by Emma Smith, Christina Mundy by Eimear Slattery, Rose Mundy by Saoirse Doyle, Agnes Mundy by Sabina Bonnici, Michael Evans by Peter O'Brien, Gerry Evans by Brendan Phelan, Father Jack by Liam Corrigan.

Glencullen Musical and Dramatic Society as always welcomes new and old members. We have a musical and a play each year and other activities when enough members are interested in running them. There many other ways to be involved from front stage, backstage, front of house, PR, Props & set construction. If you would like to get involved please make contact (come and talk at rehearsals, send us email glencullen.musical@gmail.com, visit www.gmds.ie).

The play is a much loved production by actors and audience alike. The 1990 Abbey play won both an Olivier Award [1991] and Tony Award [1992] for Best Play. The original cast included Rosaleen Linehan as Kate, Anita Reeves as Maggie and Bríd Brennan as Agnes. Dancing at Lughnasa was adapted for film in 1998 starring Meryl Streep as Kate Mundy and Brid Brennan repries her role as Agnes again. The film won an Irish Film and Television Award for Best Actor in a Female Role by Brid Brennan.

The show will be opening April 9 and run until the April 13. Tickets are available through the Mill Theatre Dundrum. Phone (01) 296 9340. Website www.milltheatre.ie.

Kilkenny Youth Theatre presents 'KoHL' devised by Droichead Youth Theatre with Sharon

KoHl Poster mark 4.jpg

‘Clean livin’ don’t happen in a dirty town.’

Barnstorm Kilkenny Youth Theatre performs KoHL, devised by Droichead Youth Theatre with Sharon Cromwell.

Mia Swan, who has been looking desperately for her beloved sister, turns to Max Cole, a private investigator. She admits ‘I can’t say I’ve had the world’s greatest family background’ and fears for her sister’s life. The Prohibition has been in situ, to Leon Antonelli’s greatest advantage, for seven years. He runs a ‘regular theatre’ with dancers and a show for his customers, but Julia Stone, a fearless News Reporter, knows the real game. All she needs is evidence. As she goes undercover, the story of this underworld unfolds. We jump into the workings of Leon’s organization, kept company by the spirits of four dead dancers.

Kilkenny youth theatre takes a trip back in time, to when gangsters, illegal booze, and sprawls were in full swing. Following their foray into the unreal world of Gormenghast last year, Kilkenny Youth Theatre now take on a slice of real history, The Prohibition. In true Film Noir style it has the private eye, the femme fatale, the gangsters and the molls. Max Cole seeks out the truth, everyone else likes to lie. Leon runs a slick illegal booze operation, while the great and good of New York City try to unravel his plans. Who knows what can happen in dirty town?

With a cast of 15 young people based in Kilkenny, KoHL will spring to life with film noir style, panache and a dose of tongue-in-cheek.

Where? The Barn, Barnstorm Theatre Company, Church Lane, Kilkenny

When 11th-13th of April at 8pm. There will be a matinee on the 13th which will take place at 3pm.

Cost 10/8euro conc.

Book Now 056 7751266 or anna@Barnstorm.ie.

KoHL is performed with the permission of the NAYD as part of their New Stage programme. Kilkenny Youth Theatre is a proud member of NAYD. More info at www.nayd.ie.

Hi all, I'm holding a showcase on the 3rd and 4th of May. We'll be doing five scenes from five different American plays, and you'll be able to vote on which one you enjoyed the most! Whichever one gets the most votes will be fleshed out into a full production for October of this year!

Did I mention it's free in?

It's going to be in the Pearse Centre, next to the Trinity Capital Hotel on Pearse Street, at 8 pm on the two nights. More details can be found here!
