A Jesus toblerone, save your money for chocolate, I haven't a hope in hell. If I break 1.26:59 I'll donate another €100!!!

Meno to beat me by a minute, hmmmmm :)

    TbL

You've already been very generous !!! Thank you so much for that in itself. But if anyone fancies pacing TbL to a 1:26:59 step up now !

I've only just got around to reading this. It should add another interest to the race just like it did in Enniscorthy, especially with more in the handicap this time!
I don't suppose someone with time of their hands can add previous race time to the table? Maybe with a Mcmillan predicted HM time on the back of this followed by HM PB?

For the record my one and only half marathon is 02:23:42 although I hardly trained in the six weeks leading up tp it and did the race injured.
And my last time was 54:27 in a 10k.

Just if anyone is mad enough to consider backing myself, I am not 100% running in this yet and will enter the race as late as possible due to injuries worries, although I have said that in pretty much every race and still ended up doing them all.

Bit of digging about reveals the following. Remember though some of these date back a while so life time best doesn't reflect current form.

    TRR_The_Turd|73.3x
    Tunguska|73.1x
    Yaboya1|1.20.1x
    Overpornator|1.24.5x
Menescemo|1.25 low (predates the internet so can't verify :D)
    ThebitterLemon|1.25.4x
    Calvin Johnson|1.29.5x
    Tom Joad| 1.33.1x
    Marthastew |1.30.4x
    Pacing Mule |2.18.3x
    MKDTH | 2.23.4x
    Laura ac3 | 2.13.1x

Any wrong times feel free to update

My PB is actually 1:26:32 from Bohermeen 2013, just before running marathon PB. I'll be delighted to run 1:25:xx this time, haven't got a hope of finishing within 10 minutes of TRR. Seriously.

PS Marthastew ran 1:29 in the same race

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,134 ✭✭✭Tom Joad

On phone so not going to attempt to edit the table in case I kill it. My pb is actually 90:13 from Clontarf in November 2013. Still blame the pacer that I missed the sub 90. ;)

P.s will make my bets/ donate when I get back tomorrow PM

Can I have a tenner e/w on Pacing Mule? Or have I to pick a 1,2,3?

We've set it up as a 1,2,3. More so that we can get a prize fund from all bets being made on the same book so we can guarantee a portion to the charity.

The side bets from ECOLII are of course seperate and funded by himself so that's why they are more specific.

Too complicated for me. I'll just donate a score and wish you all the best.

    Much appreciated !

Tell you what though. Donate it and I will pick 2 others out at random and make it a bet on all permutations of those 3.

Tom Joad seems to be the punter favourite so I'm going with him to lead my 3 home first. I can see from his training log that TbL is going well for a sub 3 so I put him down for 2nd - and I don't think Menescemo will let him get too far ahead, so he will complete my 1-2-3. So in summary my €10 bet is TJ, TbL and Menescemo.

And to somewhat hedge this bet, I'm putting another €10 on sidebet #2 for Menescemo to beat TbL.

    Best of luck folks!

Sorry about the mix-up lads, didn't appreciate I had another two. For the second of my 3 bets for €10, I'll go with Overpornator, Yaboya and Laura ac3 as my 1, 2, 3. For my third of the €10 bet, I'll go with a lucky dip option please as I haven't a clue what I'm doing!.

Yeah, I didn't think the first donation went through so ended putting through €30 but no harm. Can I put the additional €10 on the side bet #4 for Laura ac3 to come in ahead of Marthastew? With all respect to Marthastew. Laura ac3 looks to be good value for this.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,936 ✭✭✭annapr

    ok, here's my first:

    1) Laura, 2) Marthastew, 3) Yaboya (token male)

have to study the form more to figure out two more....

and if I win... prize money to be added to the donation

    Let's try this then:

Bet#1 aka the 2014 grads bet

    1st: Laura AC
    2nd: Pacing Mule
    3rd: MKDTH

    Bet#2

    1st: OP
    2nd: TJ
    3rd: Meno

    Bet#3:

    1st: TRR
    2nd: Yaboya1
    3rd: TBL

    Sidebet#1:

€5 Boards.ie -15 mins (Not quite sure what this means? Average of the boards runners needs to be within 15 mins of DR. Q?)

    SideBet #2

    €5 Megatron - 6 mins.

Best of luck everyone. Presume this will be livestreamed with the feed cutting out in the closing stages?

Thanks for the personal vote :) but more importantly thank you for the donation. Really appreciated.

I'm sure ECOLII will clarify but my take on it was that it was effectively a 30 min handicap for the boards average time versus our villain Quirkys time on the day. 15 min off ours and 15 onto his make for a 30 min handicap.

    Right

Bet 1: MKDTH; Laura ac3; Pacing Mule
    Bet 2: OP; Meno; TbL
Bet 3: Marthastew, Yaboya1, Tom Joad

    Side bets:
€5 on the good Doctor Q
€5 on Meno v TbL (sorry TbL :o)

And for all those who think I am sandbagging I will donate €1 for every second under 1:27:45 (6:42 pace) I run! :D

Ya didn't even have the decency to have me as a hedge!

So you're on for an astronomical PB of 1:24:45 and it will cost you €180 - you must be tempted to stop for a 3 minute rest at the finish line :D

Seriously mate - set yourself a limit on that pledge !

Call it reverse psychology. I can see you in the closing stages hunting down Meno just to prove me wrong;)

In the unlikely event that happens I would be thrilled to dip into the wallet :). No limits on the bet.

The cause has a particular resonance with me as a good friend has a kid with autism and I am acutely aware of the need for and value of funding for this area.

Thank you TJ. It's very much appreciated as you no doubt know.

I myself and Zachs family are very very grateful to the forum / community here and unbelievably touched by the generousity being shown. :)

Just wanted to share an example of the type of work that PALS do with Zach and other kids with non verbal autism.
Speaking is something that many of us can take for granted. However, for some people on the spectrum, learning to speak can be a challenge — sometimes a lifelong one. And for those on the severe end of the spectrum, they may remain nonverbal their whole lives.
Isabella is a beautiful little girl with severe autism. In the following video, she works with her mother and her caretaker to say, “mmm.”
Per her mother’s YouTube page: It is a herculean effort for a non-verbal autistic child to attempt to speak. They have to be extremely motivated. You just cannot give in to them. It is the world’s best example of tough love. All this work just for her to attempt “Mmmmm”. But listen carefully. It’s not obvious unless you work with her, but she does it at the end. And gets her gummy bear.

Does anyone know when entry for the Bohermeen half marathon closes?

I've emailed them but had no reply and can't find a 2015 thread for the race so just asked the question in the 2014 thread.

    Tanx a million ;)

The entries are taken until it sells out. No definite closing date. From a facebook post made last Sunday it was 90% full so I wouldn't hang around too much. Solid training run there from your log. Bite the bullet and get yourself entered so I can bet on you ;)
