    Hello,
I'm currently in sixth year and very confused about what I want to do, and the two Arts courses I have mentioned in the title and jumping out at me. Is anyone on here doing these degrees, have done, or know anyone who is? I've heard very bad stuff about the Performing Arts Studies, and I hope it's not all bad, I love drama and would like to pursue that.
Also, with the Children's Studies, I find it very intriguing, what's it like?

Also in general, what are the lecturers for Arts like at NUIG? :)
    Thankyou!

    Hey there,

I was part of the first class that undertook the Arts and Children Studies program! I applied for it because I knew I wanted to work with kids or young people but wasn't sure what area I wanted to work in. The modules in Children Studies were interesting and varied, through the 3 years of Children Studies the one's the most stand out are Child Law, Human Rights, Designing Play (this one is fantastic, you get to go back to your childhood and learn how important play is, the assignments were always great fun!) , Children and Media to name a few! In first year you take 3 Arts subjects along with your specialism in Children Studies, then in second year you drop one of the Arts subjects and focus on the 2 arts subjects plus Children Studies. In 3rd year you effectively take a year off from your 2 main arts subjects and focus solely on Children Studies. 3rd year is your work placement year. For those staying in Ireland, in first semester you have modules and assignments on campus, then for second semester you will be on placement between January and March, you will also have a careers module on campus once a week to help with CV building etc.

I really enjoyed the course overall, what I found most difficult was having a full year off from the 2 main arts subjects and then having to go back into final year of them in 4th year. However if you keep up with these subjects and sit in on a few lectures in 3rd year this will help keep you tuned in! If you have any more questions pm me and I'll try and answer them for you :)
