There is a Rally/Protest on next saturday, February 25, 2012 at 10:00am until 1:00pm at The Fairgreen Enniscorthy.

A protest against the goverment giving themselves big bonuses while people are struggling with pay reductions , social welfare cuts , sna cuts ,cuts to special needs entitlements , the household tax etc .We need numbers so please support.

There has already been a protest held outside Paul Kehoe's constituency office against his awarding himself a €17,000 per year pay rise.

Another blatant "FUCK YOU" to the ordinary people of Ireland who elected this shower in the hope of change.

Flyers have been hitting peoples letterboxes about this,it's also a protest against the household tax.

I'm not involved in the organisation of this,just a concerned citizen who is sick of what's going on in the country as us ordinary folk get it in the neck while the fat cats get richer.

The videos here demonstrate the feelings of anger up and down the country.

Nice to see the Shinners recycling the old election posters!

Good to see the picket at Paul Kehoe's office but I hear he had flown the coop before the protesters arrived. I don't like FG/FF/Labour or SF but the 'mainstream' parties are playing into right into the hands of the latter. Whatever happened to the socialists like our own Brendan Howlin or the 'stickie' Eamon Gilmore.

Seems to me that only opposition parties will disagree with Goverment policy.

B.Howlin and E. Gilmore have no choice only to believe brainwash themselves that they are doing the right thing .

All the posts on this thread are right. And yes the entire region has been ignored, but let wexford make a stand now, lets show these elite few that they dont own the country, that they are just there to do a job and that they are answerable. For too long now we've taken everything they want us to and just grumbled and got on with it, how long more are we prepared to do this??? True we now have a committee instead of a government due to the fact that we are being governed by the european parliment but let us now get together and tell this committee that we have had enough, earn your fat salaries and bonuses instead of taking the easy option and continue to squeeze the people who gave you those jobs for every last cent they have. I dont know who organised this demonstration but i think every man woman and child in this county should support it and show the rest of the country that wexford at least still has a fighting spirit and is not prepared to lie down and be walked on. Hi All

A series of protests have been organised for this weekend. Protests will take place at three different venues on Saturday to coincide with the national day of protest. The details are as follows:

Wexford: White line picket on Wexford Bridge, meeting in the Ferrybank Car Park at 1pm.
Enniscorthy: Meeting at 9.30 am in the Fairgreen Car Park. Protest mach will begin at 10am around the town finishing outside the constituency office of Paul Kehoe.
Gorey: Protest on the main street at 2pm.

Numbers have been high at the most recent meetings and the campaign is strengthening. Lets do our best to engage more and more people and large numbers on Saturday will show the Government that our campaign is not going away.

Great turnout this morning in Enniscorthy,with people of every demographic there.What was strange though were the bemused looks from some people along the route,it's as if they never even heard that the government are trying to impose this tax on them.

A Nigerian Prince has more chance of getting my details and €100 from me than Fine Gael have.

Fairly small turnout on the bridge, but the message seeed to be getting through, great moment before we started tho, Brendan Howlin had been in the Riverside for lunch and emerged to find he had parked his car by our gathering point, the fear in his eyes was visible, and he was an ignorant Prick, I asked him why he wasRunnig away rather than listen to the valid concerns of those who voted him into office, I got a clipped reply of 'who the f*** are you' Me I'm one of your constitutants C*** the ignorant Fck seemed very serious in his intent to drive over us mere mortals

As a matter of curiousity has anyone paid the household charge yet?

Do you plan on paying?

Personally I don't intend on paying it. Time for the people of Ireland to stand up and say 'enough is enough'.

And all this talk about taking it directly from people's social welfare and the like is a load of crap if you ask me. Just verbal threats to scare people into paying.

BTW, they want anyone who is exempt to register too,as if that's gona happen.

They want to catch everyone in the net just in case they need to charge those who are exempt in the future,plus they are asking what type of water supply your home has,to introduce water charges no doubt.

i wont be paying. I'm lucky enough to have a job so I'm already paying my fair share. Why would I want to pay another 100 euro and get nothing in return for it??? i'm already paying PRSI. As for this 100 euro going to the upkeep of local amenities? i'm paying car tax, dont see much of that going for the upkeep of the roads. The threat of deducting this money from peoples wages and social welfare payments just makes me more determined not to pay, they cant touch fingelton and drumm and several others cause it would require them to change laws, cant cut judges wages cause it would require a change to the constitution. they seem to have no problem raiding private pension funds and making deductions from wages and social welfare payments. So much for our socialist labour party. So no I wont be paying

More likely it will be about the household charge/property tax and a general protest vote against the current regime.

Did anyone hear the piece on Ray Darcy this morning,a woman from Ballymoney suggested that maybe those who didn't want to pay could donate the €100 to Crumlin Childrens Hospital as they need to raise €8 million.A TD completely shot down the idea with the rhetoric that "everyone has to pay their way to support local services".Even Ray Darcy gave the TD a piece of his mind. "We are paying €3.1 billion to bondholders but the government won't give a fraction of that to help sick kids".

It was a great turn out. Ordinary people spoke about an unfair tax - no Councillors or TD's spoke at the Rally.

All those in attendance were invited to speak at the Rally - as it was a "people movement" not affiliated to any political party.

Hope Tzar wasn't dissappointed that Sinn Fien cancelled their March (It was announced middle of last week!):)

Very well attended meeting yesterday, some good speakers on the board walk afterward. One thing I did notice yesterday from listening to the speakers and from watching various tv programmes on the subject and that is, people are refusing to pay this tax and they say the reason for their refusal is because its unfair. What I'd like to know is what do they mean by unfair? If it was based on the size of the property would it be fair and would it be paid? If it were based on household income would it be fair and paid? If it were based on the location of the house would it be fair and paid? Dont get me wrong, I am in no way in favour of this tax, I even marched again yesterday in protest against it eventhough it doesn't affect me because I rent my house. The reason I am against it is because I for one have had enough of working my arse off and paying my tax to keep a small number of elite in this country in the luxury to which they have become accustomed. I didn't cause the mess we are in at the minute nor did the majority of irish people who are now being squeezed for money they simply cant afford to pay while those who did cause it get away scot free. The Mahon tribunal came up with a novel term this week to avoid calling bertie ahearn a liar, the term un-truths. Well I'll call him a liar, and all his cronnies. Liars cheats and traitors, and to be honest it hasn't improved. John Browne was asked on radio one day last week how come he didn't know this corruption was going on, He came up with some load of bull about being so busy concentraing on wexford problems and working for the people of wexford that he didn't know anything about it. Nice answer John but unfortunately that fluff off of an answer doesn't work anymore, people's eyes have been opened. Plain and simple your a liar, or a teller of un-truths too. The point I'm making folks is that if it comes down to it and the tax is not paid because its not fair, my opinion is it wont take phil hogan long to re-jig it and introduce it another way and maybe end up costing us more than 100 euro. Anyway that's my opinion, I just think we have to be very careful with this shower. comments welcome
