Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Preferred bidder status is what you mean, contract award means contract has been awarded to the preferred bidder.

    Loads of jobs on job sites for civil engineers in relation to this which would not be advertised unless contract were signed

    Wexford Co Co Roads department: All preliminary work complete, contracts should be signed first or second week of October, construction to start November.
    All nice and visible for a Spring election!

    Our Irish office is looking to recruit 4 number experienced Resident Engineers with Road/Traffic Management experience as part of our Authority’s site supervisory staff for the forthcoming “N25 New Ross Bypass PPP” scheme in Counties Wexford/Kilkenny in the South East of Ireland. The project will involve the construction of approximately 14.8km of National Route comprising of approximately 13.6km of Dual Carriageway and approximately 1.2km of Single Carriageway and associated works. It will also include an Extrados bridge crossing the River Barrow which will have two 230m main spans and a total length of about 900m.

    We are expecting the appointment of the Resident Engineers to take place in September/October 2015 for duration of approximately 40 months. This period will be spent on site in the vicinity of New Ross.

    I take it when they refer to Dual Carriageway they mean Type 2 (or 2+2)?

    Both. 4km T1, 9.6km T2.

    Bridge and approaches T1 it seems which makes sense, reducing the risk of huge costs for any future upgrade.

    That's great. It would be nice if the HDQC part was given a speed limit of 120 km/h and re-classified as motorway, though I suppose for the sake of 4 km the higher speed limit will result in next to no time saving. The Waterford City bypass most certainly should be upgraded to motorway and given a proper speed limit, I know TII (formerly the NRA) aren't fans of short stretches of motorway but from a planning perspective it makes far more sense, especially given the Irish inability to plan anything, plus the higher speed limit would be good as well from a time saving point of view.

    That's great. I take it when they eventually get around to doing the end of the Waterford bypass to the start of this they will make it a HQDC. Hopefully when that sees the light of day they will have the good sense to re-classify the HQDC part of the New Ross bypass to West Waterford (where the existing Waterford bypass ends) as motorway. It's absolutely crazy that the Waterford City bypass has a speed limit of only 100 km/h.
    This is the N25 Waterford-Glenmore Scheme, which is planned as HQDC/Type 1 Dual Carriageway. Surely Kilmeaden - New Ross will then be redesignated M, similarly with the N22 in Cork when Macroom-Ovens is done

    Yeah, hopefully that will be the case. Waterford-Glenmore should be a really short scheme, probably only 8 km long so it shouldn't be too expensive for them to do. But once that's done then they should definitely make all that part of the N25 motorway, there will be about 30 km of continuous HDQC or so by that stage, so that definitely deserves upgrading to motorway. 120 km/h running would shave another three minutes (compared to 100 km/h) on that eventual stretch of road.

    Parts of the M50 have no hard shoulders and are not hqdc; where there's a will theres a way.
    I mean the road over the Suir bridge is already a motorway, just not a Motorway.

    Director of Services with Wexford County Council's Roads Department, Eamonn Hore told this newspaper that the contracts will be signed in the first or second week of October and work will begin shortly afterwards.

    Mr Hore said: 'All preliminary works are completed and work should start in November. The timeline has gone from vague to definite and the contracts should be signed now in the first or second week of October. All court and property issues have been finalised. There is nothing remaining to be done apart from signing the contracts.'

    In this week's People again.
    THE New Ross and Enniscorthy bypasses which have been included in the government’s newly-announced €27 million capital plan for the next six years will be completed by mid-2018.
    Cllr George Lawlor said both projects would start before the end of the year following months of delays.
    ".. what appeared to be a minor issue with regard to a foreshore license involved a lot of individuals at the highest level to get it done, including the Attorney General. "

Another box ticked for the Wexford electorate in time for the next election. Good news either way that it's finally going to happen soon!

    Yes and work is not actually scheduled to begin till January.

    At this rate they will announce the opening ceremony a year before the project is finished !!!

    How about vegetation clearing or topsoil removal? Won't anything start earlier? They could do that while they finalize the design details for bridges and other bits.

    They will no doubt start some works but a lot of it tends to be seasonally affected as well.

    Here are some facts and information about the New Ross Bypass:
    • The project was approved by An Bord Pleanála back in December of 2008.
    • The project will cost roughly €217m.
    • An estimated 300 jobs will be created throughout the course of its construction.
    • Work on the project is expected to begin at the end of 2015 / early 2016.
    • The bypass is expected to be completed by 2018.
    • The new bridge will be 900 metres in length, making it Ireland’s longest bridge (in comparison, the bridge in Wexford Town is 590 metres in length).

    True. But there were also rumours about imminent signing of the New Ross bypass contract as the shore licence issue was seemingly resolved.

    So, what's happening now?
