I'm going to be moving to Sligo for college after the summer and was just wondering if anyone can give me a heads up of a way to secure accommodation. I'll check listings and stuff nearer the time but if there's anything people might know off the top like the best place to look, best places to stay, average cost or any little thing like that I'd appreciate it.

    Upping this.

I've already tried to get in touch with a few of the support services people but they never really gave me any helpful information. I emailed two of the student villages, one of which didn't reply and the other giving me an application sheet asking for €1700 up front. How on earth are students affording that much up front? lol.

I also looked at house sharing on the Student Union's page, but since that relates only to people sharing their houses for this semester and I won't be able to commute to Sligo until I get accommodation, again can't really use it.

So if anyone has any information, I'd really appreciate it.

From what i can tell paying a lot up front is pretty common in student accommodation. Maybe start looking at houses later in the summer when this semester is finished

Cheers for the reply mate. I think I might have been able to get through to a house which charges weekly. Seems pretty solid but now I just have to make sure my BTEA covers it haha.

How do young students cover fees for 2 grand up front houses? I know I could have been saving up for a while from last years BTEA or whatever but I have no idea how a 17 or 18 year old would be expected to pay that. Nuts.
