The mt leinster change is brilliant news.I cannot tell you how lovely it is to have saorview and ukfreeview as a simple multi room multi channel system with freesat as a back up.
Being able to simply change channels on all TV's without an stb in every room and wit any mpeg4 tv or better still saorview approved freeview HD capable TV's is excellent seamless joined up thinking frequency planning for Irish UK spillover areas.
    Well done Rte NL :)

Sanity prevails at last in the Mount Leinster/Preseli standoff. Shame it hadn't been thought through from the start: it was obvious that the DTT coverage would match the analogue coverage given the efficiencies of COFDM systems at 7dB below peak analogue ERPs.
On an incidental note the change of the Mount Leinster frequencies will remove any CCI between Mount Leinster and Kilkeel post DSO which is 39, 42 and 45. I see from DUK's site its being reengineered today.

I was never annoyed by this as I recognise that I was in a very small minority but this does come a little too late for me. Our Kilkeel reception was almost certainly wiped out by DTT from Mt. Leinster, and the channels affected varied with the changes in the amount of multiplexes switched on etc. at Mt. Leinster.

The "60 site plan" was the second-to-latest plan I've seen. IIRC The Cush posted them here after they were released on the ComReg website. It was described merely as a frequency coordination plan rather than a DTT rollout plan from RTE.

I think having more retunes wouldn't be a bad thing if it meant superior coverage for all concerned? For users it just means a rescan in most cases.

Would it not be a good idea to use channel 39 on Mount Leinster until ASO next October ?

Yes but that is intelligent thinking, something they are not renowned for. They would probably argue:-
    1. that it would need COMREG approval which would probably take a year anyway
    2. it would mean 2 re-tunes for ML viewers.

They already have approval to use channel 39 for the second mux ,so they could use it until ASO and give people best quality signal to set their s.t.b's or tv's .

Mux 2 could launch before ASO next year.

Yes but RTÉNL are so picky (i'm being polite here:D) they would say "Oh no, that's for mux 2. We cant put mux 1 on that freqeuncy without approval."
They could have used it all along and resolved the issues with CH45 at their leisure without upsetting everyone on both sides of the sea.

This thread came to mind when I read this from Saorview over on twitter
    Ruth O'Dwyer‏@damersruth
@SAORVIEW don't suppose u've an exact date when mt Leinster mast will change broadcast channel? Or wil it b 1min b4 analogue switch off?! :)

    Tommy & PJ‏@SAORVIEW
@damersruth Not yet but there is no re-tune scheduled on ASO Day. Up to date info regarding this can be found on Aertel http://www.rte.ie/aertel/169-01.html …

Has the channel change been cancelled at ASO, the Saorview News article states the change will happen on Oct 24th?
CHANNEL FREQUENCY CHANGE AT SOME TRANSMITTERS AS SAORVIEW
PROGRESSES TOWARDS FINAL CONFIGURATION TO THE DIGITAL NETWORK

As work continues to extend SAORVIEW coverage to 98% of the Irish population, technical changes will be made at 3 of the 51 transmission sites. The frequency channels which carry SAORVIEW need to be changed to extend and improve coverage and to vacate channels above channel 60 at analogue switchover. These frequency changes will take place on October 24th 2012.

    ....

    http://www.saorview.ie/news/channel-frequency-change-at-some-transmitters/

It also appears Clermont Carn won't be increasing power at ASO - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=80045332#post80045332

The RTÉNL list of Saorview frequencies still indicates the frequency change at Mt Leinster and power increase at CC will happen on Oct 24th.
    [Clermont Carn] 1 Ch.53 will change to Ch.52 at Analogue Switch-Off (24th October 2012)
    [Mt Leinster] 2 Ch.45 will change to Ch.23 at Analogue Switch-Off (24th October 2012)
    [Three Rock] 3 Ch.54 will change to Ch.30 on July 10th 2012
[Clermont Carn/Truskmore/Holywell Hill] †Currently on restricted power - maximum ERP becomes effective at Analogue Switch-Off

More likely the person doing the Saorview Twitter is clueless.
When the Irish Times published their article a while back which said that UPC analogue customers would need to get Saorview boxes, their Twitter feed recommended the article.

The UK retune plan for clearing channels 61 & 62 is here.

No txs using channel 23 but I notice some Welsh relays using channel 22 will be doubling their power output.

This technical change may require some viewers to carry out a rescan of their SAORVIEW receivers. A rescan is a relatively simple procedure, very similar to the initial set-up. Viewers receiving from the following transmission sites are most likely to need to make this minor adjustment, but not before October 24th 2012.

    1. Clermont Carn, serving Louth, Meath, North Dublin, Cavan, Monaghan, and Down, Armagh, Antrim
    2. Mount Leinster, serving Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny, South Wicklow, Tipperary, Waterford. The changes at Mount Leinster have also been prompted by feedback and requests for same from the main professional aerial installation bodies and are designed to overcome the problem of occasional interference from the UK transmitter Preseli, Wales.
    3. Holywell Hill, serving Donegal, and Derry, Tyrone
More information is available at www.rtenl.ie and updates will be available throughout October 2012 as the changes occur.

Late night "essential preparatory engineering work" announced for the above 3 TV transmitters later this August, maybe testing the post retune config.

    Mt. Leinster - 22nd August from 00:00 to 07:00
    Clermont Carn - 24th August from 00:00 to 07:00
    Holywell Hill - 25th August from 00:00 to 05:00
    Service Notification:
RTÉNL - Mt. Leinster, Co. Carlow

Due to essential preparatory engineering work, our Mt. Leinster transmitter will be off the air on 22nd August from 00:00 to 07:00

    Service Notification:
RTÉNL - Clermont Carn, Co. Louth

Work only affecting SaorView. Don't seem to be taking analogue off for any real testing on Ch. 23. But then they might do it and not say...

From the list Peter Rhea posted, big increases at Haverfordwest could cause some issues for Forth Mountain. But once Mt. L moves, can't see many needing Forth Mt.

The latest revised RTÉNL list of Saorview Frequencies indicates the frequency changes and increase in ERPs at the 4 transmitter sites will now happen after ASO, the previous revision indicated these changes would happen at ASO.
    B]Clermont Carn[/B 1 Ch.53 will change to Ch.52 after Analogue Switch-Off
    B]Mt Leinster[/B 2 Ch.45 will change to Ch.23 after Analogue Switch-Off
B]Clermont Carn/Truskmore/Holywell Hill/Moville[/B †Currently on restricted power - maximum ERP becomes effective after Analogue Switch-Off

RTENL never cease to amaze me how little they care about anyone outside Dublin.

In terms of Mount Leinster, anyone with a Group A or anyone that is currently unable to receive C45 because of Preseli has to just do without RTE until they can be bothered to start transmitting on the channel 23 allocation? A future problem in Dublin gets solved before any real trouble, yet RTENL are going to leave large parts of the south east with poor or no Saorview reception?

Is there any reason why Mount Leinster was allocated Group B in the first place?

Don't know the reason but it was part of the original DTT plan from the late 1990s.

The frequency change delay could cause problems in analogue only households that may not have upgraded their aerial before ASO even if it's only for a short period of a week or so to assist the UK Ch 61/62 clearence/retune in parts of Wales, a week after ASO here, as Peter mentioned above in his post.

Interesting to see how RTÉNL/Saorview inform households in the Mt Leinster coverage area that their Group A aerial may not be good enough for Saorview reception for about a week or so until the frequency change takes place, maybe requiring an upgrade to a wideband aerial in the interim.

They don't seem to love us that much in Dublin either since they have bugger all advance notification of the change in frequency

Sorry but that's just nonsense, they gave little notice for the recent three rock freq change so basically they don't discriminate in their approach on a geographical basis . They don't care on a equal basis.

A lot of those using Three Rock still receive sufficient signal from Kippure on C54, and during the change, and at the moment, they still have analogue.

Anyone who uses Three Rock should have a Group W aerial ANYWAY, the analog is spread across the band, and the DTT allocations are also spread across the band, any competent installer should know that they could use those allocations at anytime, and snap they need a Group W aerial. People would be complaining of interference if they left it in Group C/D anyway, it had to be changed at some point, and better nip it in the bud now than leave it til next year when even more peiple had bought Group C/D aerials.

Those who currently can't get Mount Leinster DTT due to Preseli interference/too low power/different group aerial are being told that they will have no access to free to air terrestrial television for an unknown amount of time in October.

There is quite a difference, and this post proves my first sentence in my above post.

Its bad planning pure and simple, reducing it to a Dublin/outside Dublin scenario has no basis and recent events bear this out.

Anyone got any news on when Mt. L will be changing frequency.. Can't see any need for there to be cooperation on the frequency shifts planned for Wales on the 30th October.

Nothing official, all they have said is after ASO (post #80 above). So it could be next day or the next week etc.
