I cycled 125km over the last 3 days. I am physically exhausted but pleased with myself. there was even a night on the beer in the middle there!

I did learn one thing - cycling up a hill into gale force winds is not pleasant.

Only started cycling in January, just over 2600kms cycled now and completed the 120km Kilmallock tour 2 weeks ago at average of 29.2 kmh, was 15st4lbs in dec, now at 13st 09lbs and well happy with myself from where i started.
Best advise I could give anyone is to join their local club if possible , you will get great support and tips/advise from experienced cyclists.
It can be very chalenging at times but I have the cycling bug now and am really enjoying the spins - hurting ones and all:)

Did my longest cycle last Sunday, the 120 km croi lap of the corrib.
Was going fairly well, then got a puncture 20k from the finish. Fixing the puncture seemed to drain me and I coasted the rest of the way.
This evening I did my fastest ever average speed 30.1 kph on a 30km spin, though it has to be said conditions were ideal
Next up is the Tour de Connemara at the end of the month. Hope the weather is nice because you can't beat Connemara when the sun is out!

Not sure if it is the new bike or my new go faster Aldi jacket that made the difference but this evening I did my first +30km/hr spin of any decent distance, 29.2km @31.2km/hr.

    http://app.strava.com/rides/7923317

I have a personal rule against doing silly things like time trialling when I'm out for a spin but temptation got the better of me this time when I turned for home at Brackna and I could see my average was over 33km/hr.

Had my first clipless moment today.

Good cycle other than that. Nice sunny day, surrounded by great motorists!

    they can be mortifying!
is that an oxymoron or something?

went for two spins today and set strava pb's for them both, plus managed to get my average speed up closer to where I want it in both cases.

However, while watching a boat almost capsize I clipped the blocks around a bus stop and mangled my tire lever (could have been sooo much worse!) and then, in front a pub with about 100 people outside, as I unclipped to pause at a red light, my leg cramped and down I went. So my much for my htfu image...

I've been contemplating buying a bike and taking up cycling as a means of getting fit again for the last month or so.

Today i chose the bike i want and plan to buy it within the next week or so. I havent cycled in over 15yrs, I'm about a stone overweight and desperately unfit at the moment so this hopefully will be a means of getting fit and losing weight.

I hope to be able to post something more meaningful within the next month or so.

After getting a helmet the next most important thing to do is
Make sure you get padded shorts or bottoms bofore you collect the bike

your bum will be the limiting factor it's like having a second saddle to take the weight !

Jaysus I'm fairly embarrassed from reading the newbie achievements ... to date my biggest achievement is squeezing into a pair of cycling shorts  :pac:

    Did my first 100km today.

    100.18km in 3hrs 39mins 51secs.

    Average speed 27.3

Not sure if that's a decent time.

As a matter of interest, was that time all spent on the saddle or did you have to stop for a break?

About 4 hours I reckon, didn't stop for a break, just traffic lights and for getting food out of jersey pockets!

Jaysus that's impressive - you should post that over in the Athletics Forum. What will you be like when you get up on a bike! :D

PS - got my 3rd KOM on Strava tonight! :)

After reading through all of these others achievements I'm not even sure if mine is an achievement, but today I got on a bicycle for the first time in around 7 years and cycled for around 3 hours. :D I'm chuffed, anyway.

:D Smiling reading this, I made the typical amateur mistake and hit the road for the first time in many many years a couple of weeks back without any padded shorts or gel deat. Did 40km and man did I pay for it the following few days :p

Didnt deter me though, borrowed a road bike and i've been out doing plenty of 20-25km runs since, just loving it at the moment. Planning another 40-60km run soon and i'm aiming for a 200km run in August for charity so that'll be my newbie achievement.

My achievement is shocking so - 50km in 3hr 15 min! Very slow in comparison but I am working up!

I also cycled a total of 112km last week, going to aim to have this as my weekly min total!

Did my first group spin on Sunday, The Limerick club held a sportive, starting from Cahirconlish, over the Glen to Tipp. On to Rearcross, great day, thought I'd be nervous in a group and left behind, but settled in pretty quick, did my bit up front, and completed 130km and averaged over 28k.

Excellent :) I look forward to it, not sure I will be as dedicated as Donal Harrington from Kerry who crashed after 40km but went on and then needed 10 stitches

Managed to do an 87km spin in 3 hours 1 minute and 54 secs this morning. Fairly pleased with the average speed of 28.6kph as much of it was in Dublin City/Suburbs. Elevation 366 metres and calories 1,860.

(I was hoping to get a top speed in excess of 65kph but there was too much traffic in the target area and could only get to 57kph).
