Judging by your list there Cheggers, I don't think I'm going to be of any use to you with regards to game recommendations unless you like shooting games. :o

Oh, wait a sec, tell you what is good, a childhood favourite of mine, Iron Horse by Konami. I had the honour of playing that way back in 1986 at a restaurant near the family holiday gaf in a mountain village just outside Barcelona (of all the mad places to find such a game in the world!).

Happy memories of a fine video game. It's on XBOX Live Game Room too if you fancy it. :)

HAH! What I was trying to stress was the gaf we had was so remote that you'd never think to find a solitary video game there.

I recall it vividly. It wasn't even a bootleg cabinet. It had all the bits and everything. Apparently the board is rare today but the cabinet is even rarer. Up there with that captain pugwash game in rarity.

But yes, I tip my bonnet to thee! Chin chin! ;)

I grew up there! Well, there and the UK. Here, this isn't Michael Asprin's This Is Your Life, let's find Cheggers some games! :pac:

haha, I do like the odd shooting game, I was playing RType earlier! I have do donpachi on my favourites, i have to admit i wouldnt be as mad into the shooters as you lads, but thats more out of ignorance than not liking them.. id like you guys to recommend games i should try, not for you to guess at what you think i like.. if that makes sense.. im open to try everything.

I've been saying this for ages. We should make a master list of games we play.

Iron Horse is a win/win choice I think Cheggers. Though it's a marmite game. Personally I love the game, even if it has poor collision detection and is brutal difficult!

Don't get me started on shooting game recommendations...! Play all of them, they are all lovely, even the crap ones. :)

Just stick the name on it then. The rom name is really for when there are 5 versions of the same game with big differences in them and that sort of thing.

That thing I have is just temporary, ill sort something a bit better later along the way.

Every arcade cab needs Bubble Bobble and Puzzle Bobble 2 in it, it's, like, a law or something.
Rainbow Islands is a must also!

Might I also suggest wiring up Robotron to the twin sticks for when I break in and want to play it!

It's actually nothing to do with Batman. It's Ninja Baseball Bat Man, a clever play on words

Missile Command ideally needs a trackball, but its well playable with a stick

I'm going to vote for Galaga, simply because it's great!
    Tempest as well.
Gravitar is a damn fine game, I was never any good at it mind you but had aspirations to be a champion...
Is there a way to get Silent Scope on that thing??? Get EnterNow to build you a Rifle with a little digital camera screen repurposed into a sniper scope!
If light gun games are an option the Virtua Cop 2 is a must.

    Hey Andrew,
Don't know if you are aware of this, but there's this rather excellent little game called Raiden! I know, like the guy in Mortal Kombat, except this is a vertically scrolling shooter!!
    Oh...
    You know already...
    My bad!

Are the Darius games on MAME? I actually had a go at the Cave 'version' of MAME last night and hated it. None of the games display properly and the sound is completely garbage.

Older games like Ketsui and ESP.RA.DE ran perfect but stuff like DoDonpachi and MMP/PS were awful. Even Dangun Feveron ran like an aul fella with a double hip op with a bad case of piles.

Darius I & II and G-Darius are on my version of Mame, think I'm using 1.38. ESP Ra. De., Dodonpachi and Dangun run fine on it too. I don't bother about the newer Cave shmups via Mame since I have the 360 versions but isn't there also a shmups version of mame for the purists? http://shmupmame.wordpress.com/ No idea if that supports the new stuff though.

That's cool. Nice to see someone playing more off the beaten path stuff.

Talking of which, you've reignited my fire for Mahjong games. Thanks. :)
