Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    You'd be right there. 9.78 to 20.25 is a fair drop off so you'd see an even bigger drop off again for 400. Pure guesswork, but I wouldnt be surprised if he ran sub 48. I don't think Ovett would be too far ahead of him. Sadly this is one race we will never see. :)

    yeah but getting back to the OP who would be fastest over a marathon? :P
    I'd say even nowadays Ovett could give any of them an hour at least

    There are loads of 60-100m sepcialists that are not fast over 200m let alone 400m.
    I have no doubt most world class 800 guys would destroy the likes of Nesta carter over 400m

    Edit, I think you are getting confused Pistol, Netwerk errer didn't say he would beat many world class 400m runners over 400m, he was referring to 100-200m runners.

    Just to clear up things. I used the sprinters as an all encompassing term meaning anyone at any level running 100-400. Yeah, Ovett would beat alot of world class 100/200 guys but he would also beat or be very close to alot of internationally competive 400m sprinters. lest we not forget, 47s is an incredible time for 400m.

    All I was pointing out with Ovett is, just because a guy fast over a lap or less doesn't mean he can't be fast over longer distances
