Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

General advice on piano/digital piano for Grade 6

    Son heading for Grade 6 - he plays other instruments for pleasure and currently piano for exam-purposes only. Have to replace current piano urgently. Some people have said digital piano is just as good as 'real' piano, others says not. Budget a major concern so prob looking at secondhand or reconditioned. Haven't trawled the shops yet but just wondering what boards.ie posters think?

    try freecycle or freegle for a free acoustic piano. up here, theres about 2 a month on there......

    we got our acoustic piano on freecycle about 3 years ago.

    I'm not a pianist, but my son (currently working on grade 8 piano & cello) says an acoustic is much nicer and more responsive than our Clavinova.

    We bought a secondhand 'real' one on adverts.ie. A number of people said 'digital would never be the same as a real piano' but the deciding factor for me was the price.
