Hi guys , just wondering can anyone possibly "diagnose" this problem for me.

About a week ago I went to move my car from the driveway to let a family member park and on exit I clicked to lock the car, my brother then just out of habit manually tried the handle of the back drivers door & it opened !
I've only had the car about a month & drive it seldom on account of waiting on the log book (still :( ) .. Anyway we got down and had a look and in the lock there's white, grimy-chalk like residue. I can move the catch back & forwards manually but absolutely no way of locking it! The door is now unusable ..

I've seen a lot about this online but have a list of problems it could be. Anyone tell me what's wrong?

Door lock actuator, try take off the door trim and have a look, might be even simple as a broken rod or something.

I'm not the most technically capable but I'll give it a go! :) hope to post pics of under trim if something doesn't jump out at me as broke/out of place.
    Cheers
